Today's Curbed article on JDS pitching the development to the neighborhood includes some new and higher-res renders than we've seen before:

The green terracotta looks freaking phenomenal and the cantilevered base is certainly eye-catching. Unfortunately, I think the overall package clashes pretty badly with its neighbor, visually speaking. I would much prefer to see this rising near Central Park, but then again, adding height to the LES is good for the skyline.

It's one of those weird towers that I actually like, besides it adds something to the skyline with that green cladding, I'm really getting bored with the usual glass.
I actually think it works well with Extell's tower next door, which also has a funky cladding.
Great for the LES, hopefully there will be more.

Looks good from up close, but I wonder if it would look as good as the renders if it's built.

SHoP I would argue is the top architecture firm in the world for building things that look better in person that in render. I am not a fan of this building, but know it being SHoP it will turn out phenomenal, just wait. I live right by Citizen 360 and didn't like it much before, but I love it now. I think problem with this area is there's no real context to work with and mesh in with, just a bunch of derelict housing projects that don't inspire. So both towers get sort of free reign over design as a result.

Is that residential block being integrated into this project, or is the tower just cantilevering over it?

SHoP and JDS sure love their terracotta. I like the color though.

983 is the roof height. There will be elements above, including a parapet.

I remember somewhere in the city/metro compilation thread for NYC someone posted a link about a plan to build twin highrises right next door, does someone still have the link handy?

There are 3 project that could join this tower and One Manhattan Square.

At this rate, they'll probably have brown, red, purple, blue and hot pink terra cotta buildings in the pipeline by late next year.

They should tear down those residential projects and turn the area into another Hudson Yards imo

I like the idea of that area being the HY of downtown but for one, a lot of those buildings are used the house elderly and people with low income, so not easy to tear down those buildings.
Also I doubt there would be any office buildings in that area or companies looking to move in that area so I only see residential buildings going up there. And that is happening and hopefully there will be more so it could very well end up having that relationship with downtown that HY has with midtown, on a smaller scale and without office buildings.

I cannot for the life of me think of a green building that has ever turned out well (maybe with the exception of the SEB Towers in Copenhagen). The SHoP architects are spot on with almost every project, but with this I have my doubts.

Eastern Columbia Building in downtown Los Angeles (I believe it's terra cotta as well):
