If you take a look at the architectural style, New York has more similarities to Tokyo than Hong Kong.

I'll give the skyline, the complete skyline 7.5 but then again, a lot of the pictures here show areas larger than most CBD's of any city in the world, heck even larger than many cities themselves. If we are to judge Tokyo as a whole, then by the same token we should judge Shanghai skyline as more than just Pudong, or NYC just Manhattan.
Which skyline are we rating??? Shinjuku? Marunouchi? Roppongi? Odaiba? and why stop there? I see people here talking about the 35+ million figure, so we should also include Chiba, Yokohama, Saitama, Kawasaki, etc. The Yokohama skyline is one of my favourites, not many tall buildings but beautiful, balanced and hella futuristic. Also, I don't know what people are talking about Tokyo not being futuristic, as if only the design and height of buildings are qualities that make a city futuristic. I think being able to drink water out of the tap and not worry a bit is a futuristic quality. I think being able to pay my electricity or internet bill at 2:30 AM, and not worry about getting mugged on my way back is futuristic. I think being able to go virtually anywhere with reliable public transport is futuristic. |

Quote:
Stayed in Shinjuku about five blocks from Shinjuku Station back in May of last year, while Japan was still pulling itself together. If it was that good for being a low point for Japan amidst the great stress of the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear plant emergency, then how good is it when they aren't having to deal with so many disasters at once? I don't mean to diminish the suffering that many Japanese went through in other places, and are still going through. Nor am I under some illusion that their troubles are over with. I'm just saying that I was impressed by how relatively composed Japanese society seemed during one of their worst times in recent history (I went to Niigata, Hiroshima and Osaka as well during that trip). |

Dense, but the skyline is all over the place. Remarkable, but forgettable.

I love the pics where the skyline looks like it has 'layers' of buildings. It can look very impressive. 8.5-9 here.

Tokyo's skyline is very under rated skyline due to not having a strong focal point. The photo above is one of the better vantage points.

Most futuristic city in the world. Coming back to the U.S. after a week in Toyko felt like stepping back in time 40 years. Love love love the Roppongi Hills tower.
