ATHENS | Hellinikon Marina Residential Tower | 200m | 60 fl | Pro

A proposal for a residential tower in Hellinikon area, with height of 200 meters, with probably 60 floors.
Designer: Norman Robert Foster

Welcoming the Ambitious Hellinikon Development Project
Quote:
The new face of the former International Airport in Hellenikon Athens is a fact. Hellinikon, situated on the city’s prime coastal location is situated 7 kilometers from the city center Athens. Definitively the most ambitious architectural project ever designed in the modern city that will change the face of the coastal area, bringing thousands of work positions and millions of tourists to Athens.
Lamda Development plans include one of the biggest parks in the world as plans for the area are quite impressive: they include a 2 million square meters park, top sports facilities, an upgraded coastal front of 1 kilometer, open to the public and plenty of tourist infrastructures, such as the “Marina Residential Tower”, designed to draw one million additional tourists every year to the Athens costal area.
Quote:
The man who will be appointed for this massive architectural undertaking of the Hellenikon is Norman Robert Foster; an architect with great stature and is an honor to the entire project. It is obvious that such a prestigious architect will be able to design something which will make the coastal suburbs of Athens proud. He is one of the most admired architects in the world. Norman Robert Foster is known for his work in football stadiums, museums and houses of parliament...

Honestly speaking this is a part of a larger project to renovate the area of the former Athens International Airport which will comprise some 6.5 million square meters of land to be developed in one of the most beautiful settings on the coastal zone of greater Athens and the greater Mediterranean Sea region. The project will be known as the Hellinikon Metropolitan Park because its biggest attraction will be a public park of 2.5 million square meters, much bigger than most of the major European metropolitan parks

When fully developed, this ambitious project will include 1km of sandy beach, 2000 hotel rooms including a seven-star hotel and casino complex, An aquarium, shopping mall and business district, several towers and hundreds of residential units arranged in a non-aggressive manner within the periphery of the park.

A summary of the project is included in the video below which includes the pictures above as well as the ones also presented below. Subtitle Information is in English

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNSz0UGoXec

The whole project will be constructed by a consortium called Hellinikon Global Investment Fund comprised by the Greek Lambda Development as well as Emirates companies and the Chinese Construction Giant Fosun.

This particular tower is semi-officially announced and is included in the residences part of the investment portfolio. It was mentioned with this name many times in the company's previous video, and it is expected to constitute a landmark, given the fact that Athens has not seen any highrise construction for the last 35 years or so.

Its use will be primary residential although a small number of shops at the ground level, or amenities for its residents may also be available. The information on the tower is still sketchy and few things are known besides its estimated intended height which, at the count of 60 floors appearing in the newly published video footage it is estimated by unofficial sources to be around 200 meters and will probably equal or surpass the known "in Tempo" located in Benidorm, Spain.

Images and video source: Lamda Development

Although Athens is notorious for its stubbornness to NOT build highrises, the particular development has attracted both the consent of the existing local residents as well as the go-ahead on the part of the Greek state, despite the initial reservations by some parts of the public as well as members of the current left-wing government.

On June 8, 2016 however, a Memorandum of Understanding between the government and the Investment company has been signed and the project started once again to move forward with little or no objections from anywhere. At the same time, Helliniko Global Investment issued the video which includes the above images giving an indication that underground work was going on recently, also meaning that conditions for the project, including the tower are favorable with an estimated completion time for the building as long as five to six years from now.

On the Absence of Athens Skyscrapers info thus far...

Understanding that many friends will wonder as to why Athens has been a black hole in the tall buildings universe, I advise you take the time to read the introductory posts in these two threads in the order that I present them to you. You will get all your answers at once.

What happened in Athens is a sad story. This project was in the process of planning for quite some time has now started reaching a stage of relative licensing and planning maturity, Groundbreaking is expected to start relatively soon, there is not just one tower but it seems that for this one and a couple more, some drawings may already be reaching their finalized versions on the drawing board.

In the top there is an observatory and swimming pool, thus the flat top .
