So what?If you look at the neighbouring country you can also find so called ancient "engineering feet".Even so this suddenly accounts the possibility of building a tower worth at least a billion dollar?Even if this tower magically appear in Dhaka what use does it serve to Dhaka? It's going to make Bangla more financially trouble.Dhaka is listed one of the worst cities for investment.I'm not being racist here but the leap is too big and irrational one.Hence why everyone in this forum thinks it is a bad idea.Bangla first need to stabilise its country politically and economic.

I would if there were positive stats. Dhaka is extremely prone to earthquake as ground water level has dropped tremendously because of overconsumption (the Buriganga river is too filthy to be used exclusively for water supply). Then you have bedrock issue which is very deep underground

I would be glad if this building passes height restriction, because the tallest building in Dhaka's economic center (Gulshan/Banani area) is only 40 stories tall because of the airport. This building is less than 10 km from the airport. Assuming the flight paths are not an issue, the cost along with the numerous barriers make this project extremely unfeasible and implausible

It's true that China has extremely tall buildings however China is not comparable to Bangladesh.

China is part of BRICS and is classed as a newly industrialized country. Their DP is the second largest in the world at over 10 trillion dollars. As well, their HDI is high at 0.727 and they have a history of infrastructure related developments. For example; China high-speed rail system is the longest in the world eclipsing the sum total of ALL the other countries. They have the Shanghai Tower at 632 m and the Chow Tai Fook in Shenzhen at a hair under 600 m which are both completed in addition to numerous other supertalls.

Conversely, Bangladesh is counted among the Next 11 and is a developing country. Their GDP is much lower at topping out around Portugal's (a nation with 5% of the population. The HDI is one of the lowest in Asia at 0.57 and have no experience with massive infrastructure projects. As I said in the lede, their current tallest building is a skyscraper at 171 m.

While it might seem harsh to dismiss such a plan (like Cambodia's insane twin towers) it would not be without precedent for a developing country to build a supertall (or in this case a megatall.) I would suggest looking to it's neighbour India for comparison - it currently has neither supertall nor megatall complete and likewise lacks a modern railway system.

Will this tower get built? I would not make any bets on it.

Has there been any news on whether construction will start on this? Last I heard was the Prime Minister approving the project which would allow construction to begin (late 2016). Nothing since...

It was approved in June:

The concern I have is this "Kali Pradip Chaudhury Group" doesn't sound like a reliable or established developer.
