Its funny how the Gold Coast looks as big as New Youk in some of the photos from until you see it from another angle and realise it is only one building deep. At the moment way to many tacky looking hotels. In 5 to 10 years time when all the current projects are built it will rival the the best skylines in Aus

As a whole this skyline is awesome. Especially from a distance. Very impressive. As individual buildings... I can't wait until they take down some of those 80's highrises and replace them with the likes of Q1.

7.5/10

Lots of tall buildings but not much of quality.
The city is nice though for its beaches.

It reminds me not of Miami, FL...since downtown Miami skyline is way taller than this...but it remainds me of Miami Beach with a little bit of Sunny Isles/Aventura and Hallandale Beach/Hollywood, FL throw in the mix, of course minus the mountains and the large waves!! how is the nightlife there? Is it like Miami Beach (South Beach) I am interested to find out and maybe book a trip there next year....

Dont think so..Rio is much more cosmopolity and bigger in all therms comparing to Gold. I think we can compare GC with Miami, Balneário Camboriú, Floripa...not Rio.

To the city i give a 9.5, to the skyline 7.5!!

I wouldnt mind to live for a couple months in those beautiful and crazy city

He's right, the Gold Coast has 4 buildings over 150m, compared with 27 in Miami. (from Emporis)

As much as people like to compare the two cities, it's really like comparing oranges with apples. Miami is home to 5,410,000 people. The Gold Coast... 600,000. With that said, Miami has roughly the same amount of buildings as the Gold Coast (300 -- regardless of size). So for a city with a population 9x smaller than Miami, I think that the Gold Coast definitely pulls a substantial amount of weight, to the point which it is juxtaposed against cities like Miami, Rio etc.

The Gold Coast has a good nightlife. One of the best in Australia, if I do say so myself. The close proximity to Brisbane (50 odd miles north of the Gold Coast) which also has a good nightlife and is home to the largest number of clubs/pubs/bars in Australia. So by coming here, you get to experience the laid-back beach culture of the Gold Coast, and the city hustle-and-bustle of Brisbane (pop. 2million) within an hour train ride of one another.

IMO the skyline from a distance is awesome, gives all the capitals a run for their money & there's a handful of really good buildings architecturally eg. Q1 however the rest is crap.

^ well that isn't exactly right since the actual city of Miami has a population of 430,000 in 92 sq. km , it's the entire metropolitan area that has 5.4 million people which includes Miami Beach , Fort Lauderdale,West Palm Beach and close to 100 other muncipilaties.
I do agree with Miami305 when he says the Gold Coast does resemble Miami Beach and many of our coastal beach cities.
Q1 is stunning by the way!

There's no doubt that the Gold Coast punches above its weight. But nearly all of the Gold Coast metro area's buildings are in its central skyline, whereas the row of beachside suburbs of greater Miami, listed separately from its central skyline, contain most of the highrises of the Miami metro area.

The central skylines of Miami and the Gold Coast both have roughly 280 of at least 12 stories.
But the Miami metro area has over 1000, compared to roughly 290 in the Gold Coast metro area.
For the record, the municipality of Rio de Janeiro alone contains 2500, not including the rest of its metro area.

Well then Surfers Paradise (99% of that skyline) has a population of 18,000.

C'mon, you know that Surfers Paradise doesn't contain 99% of the skyline. More like 60%...
Besides, that's a suburb, not a municipality. Downtown Miami has a population of 60,000.
