Farnborough Air Show 2016 predictions

Let's make the run up to the show tomorrow a little fun people. What are your predictions of what might be ordered next week at the show?

Maybe Turkish Airlines finally make their wide body decision/orders.

I think it's to early for the Emirates A350/7810 choice.

Jet Airways is due for a wide body choice also.

Air Bridge finalizes their 748F order.

Qatar might order the rumored 789 we heard of before.

Emirates seems to go only with B777's and A380's. They pretty much retired other kind of aircrafts in their fleet.

With fleet simplification and streamlining, Emirates can save a lot of money training pilots on multiple aircraft types while, at the same time, it can experiment with various cabin interior layouts on its fleet to suit the diverse needs of its passengers.

As for my air show prediction, how about large orders of narrow bodied aircraft like the 737 or A320, if not the Bombardier C-Series or the debut of the Mitsubishi MRJ into Europe? Those are pretty much my wild guesses...

One of the most-likely is Virgin Atlantic's a350-1000 order. It was already rumored in the media to be very close to reaching a final deal a few weeks back. Just wondering if Brexit could have affected the decision.

Rumor floating around that Air Asia is also close to buying another 100-120 A320 NEO's.

Ladies and gentlemen, let the orders begin...

Quote:
ALC increases portfolio with three A350s and one A321

Air Lease Corporation (NYSE: AL), the Los Angeles based aircraft leasing company announced a firm order for three A350-900s and one A321 at the Farnborough Airshow to meet strong market demand for more modern and fuel-efficient aircraft.

Including today’s announcement, ALC’s portfolio of Airbus aircraft stands at a total of 267, of which 70 are widebodies (16 A330ceo, 25 A330neo, 24 A350-900, 5 A350-1000) and 197 are single-aisles (30 A320ceo, 22 A320neo, 27 A321ceo, 118 A321neo)...

Boeing to Sell Up to $3.39 Billion of Planes to Xiamen Airlines

Boeing Co. signed a memorandum of understanding to sell 30 aircraft to China’s Xiamen Airlines in a deal worth $3.39 billion at list prices.
The order is for 737 Max 200 planes to the Xiamen, China-based carrier. The airline, which is already a 737 Max customer, sees the Max 200 as a fit for its low-cost subsidiaries, including Jiangxi Airlines and Hebei Airlines, according to a statement issued at the Farnborough Airshow Monday.

So here is the Virgin deal, 8 from direct purchase plus 4 through lease from ALC. I don't think it's a firm order though, it's not explicitly mentioned.

Quote:
Virgin Atlantic selects the A350 as its future flagship

UK based Virgin Atlantic Airways has selected the A350-1000, the largest member of the A350 Family, to become the latest aircraft in its fleet, operating from both London Heathrow and Gatwick airports. The airline is purchasing eight A350-1000s for deliveries commencing in 2019, and four new aircraft on long term leases from ALC from 2020, including a lease "option" for a fifth aircraft.

The A350-1000 was selected after intense and detailed evaluation of the current and future alternatives. The airline will benefit from state-of-the-art technology and the latest cabin product innovations to satisfy the most exacting customer expectations. Airport operations and neighbouring communities will benefit from the use of an environmentally efficient aircraft with low pollution credentials and half the noise impact compared to rival aircraft.

The aircraft will be deployed initially at London Heathrow to strengthen the trans-Atlantic network on existing business routes, and subsequently at Gatwick airport on leisure routes to the Caribbean, where Virgin Atlantic will provide three classes of customer service in the A350s distinctive Airbus ‘Airspace’ cabin with roomy overhead bins and the latest concepts for ambience, comfort, service and design...

I figure this Virgin Atlantic A350-1000 order is more or less a swap for the A380. I wouldn't be surprised if we finally see a confirmed Virgin cancellation of the SJ.

Actually, the Virgin Atlantic A380 order has not been canceled or swapped, but remains in the same limbo as before.

I wouldn't be surprised if Virgin got some more discount on the A350s if they didn't cancel the A380. Airbus right now can't use the negative headlines about the A380 program a cancellation would have created. Even when everybody knows that these A380 will never be delivered. Which is even confirmed by Airbus in this new A350 order, in their press release they wouldn't have called the A350-1000 the new "flagship plane" for Virgin if the A380 was still on the horizon.

~~~~
Anyway, the most interesting rumor going around right now is that Qatar Airways is seriously negotiating with Boeing about an order for 30 737s.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...ce-of-a320neos
But Qatar's CEO isn't nick-named U-turn Al for nothing, unless it's not a firm order he could still change his mind at the very last minute. With this order he will actually always be U-turn Al. Going for it means a U-turn against the A320neo. Not going for it will mean it will be a U-turn against all his talk about (partly) switching to Boeing. Qatar Airways will start the 2nd day with a press event at 9:00 local time. That will be the most likely moment we will or won't see any order news from Qatar Airways. There's also a prospect of them finally firming up their 787 options. It could be a coincidence, but their 30th and final delivery of their 1st 787 order is scheduled for tomorrow.
Seriously now? Whatever happened to all those massive plane orders with Airbus, especially the A320NEOs? I mean, if it will switch to Boeing all of a sudden, it will mean a dent in the airline's mainly-Airbus fleet (the main Boeing types it has would be the B777-200LR, B777-300ER, and B787-8).
