Melk - Baroque gem and cozy small town (Lower Austria)

Hi everybody!

The travel virus has got me.
Today I visited Melk which is situated in Lower Austria (Wachau, Danube)
and can be reached from Vienna per train in about one hour.
The train route (landscape) itself is beautiful - but cannot be seen, because the train
passes several tunnels and every side of the route is covered with walls.

The old town of Melk is a relaxed and cozy place, sitting in guest gardens
and enjoying dolce vita listening to street music and sipping on some drink.
Beautiful buildings from many different centuries!

Above all the world famous Monastery, which I today only watched from
outside and will visit (perhaps inclusive guided tour) the next time I am
in Melk.

Here is a first taste of another lovely small town in Lower Austria:

Melk (1)

Friendly atmosphere - little angel with part of the monastery:

Lovely Old Town!

The UNESCO World Heritage Monastery Melk, baroque masterpiece, seen from near the Danube:

Bacchus would like this - the pedestrian and cyclist Bridge over the Danube:

For me the lovliest street in Melk:

Connoisseur's town

Detail of a beautiful old door:

Tourist's pleasure
People from all over the world come to Melk and stroll the Old Town,
visit the Monastery or explore the town by bicycle:

I have already seen wonderful new updates from some of you (Igor, Eduardo, Roberto...) -
but will take a longer look and answer after the following three days
during which I again am offline in the woods.

despite its being a land-locked country, Austria is noted for its rich architecture, fertile land and beautiful people.

Thank you, Igor!

Fairy tale is a good description for it - one would not be astonished if
Snowhite or Cinderella would come out of one of the small houses.

Oh, what a nice compliment for Austria - thank you, capricorn!
As far as beautiful women are concerned, in Austria is a saying that especially many
of them live in Graz, the capital of Styria.

Oh, thank you, dear Roman! It's a great pleasure for me when people
think about coming to Austria after having seen my pics.

*

But now from the beginning...

Melk (2)

Out of the running train I could take pics of beautiful clouds.
But the first two impressions also show the problem of this railway route:
The landscape is hidden behind walls, and where there are no walls, the
train passes tunnels. So never forget a good book or magazine on that route.

Near the Railway Station Melk a first interesting building caught my eye:

Whereever I go - I always have an eye on the flowers.
This delicate beauty bowed out of the garden fence and winked at me.

The next little sunshine I met in the front garden of a doctor's Villa:

A friend of Empress Sisi, as it seems...

Another romantic detail of this Villa:

This is the way the Monastery and the Old Town present themselves to the visitor
who comes from the Railway Station:

I must say, both in Melk and in Krems it is very easy and comfortable to reach
the Old Town from the Railway Station.

- Will be continued. -

Another beautiful place I never knew existed... Some incredible building as the Monastery! Thank to share it!

In the "lovliest street", the building seems to have wooden tiles, very use in wood old traditional construction in my region... Is this really that?

Thank you for your kind comment, General Electric!

To your question: Yes, I think the little Towers of the building have wooden tiles.
Am not sure about the roof - either wooden tiles or slate roof?
Perhaps I can find out.

Wooden tiles in Austria are mainly used in the Alpine region.

Beautiful photos in this update, dear Silvia. The building of the last picture is monumental.

Thank you so much, dear Roberto!

Monastery and Church Melk are the work of architect Jakob Prandtauer,
who was the only son of Tyrolian mountain farmers. He began as a bricklayer
and made his way up to such a wonder as the Monastery which now
belongs to UNESCO Weltkulturerbe Wachau. Worked on that megaproject
from 1702 until his death in 1726. One of the best Austrian Baroque architects.

Beautiful town, but the Monastery is easily the most impressive thing about it!
