Which is where the confusion comes in. I thought the wheels for Singapore, Moscow and Shanghai were actually ferris wheels. This also looks a lot like a ferris wheel as well, where the London Eye is not a ferris wheel at all.

Just to top it off - London will just have to build a larger observation wheel

That is very very cool. It reminds me of the Montreal Olympic stadium.

By the way, just ignore Brmghm Cltr, his very name's a bit of an oxymoron.

Yea seriously... something that's probably going to be doubled in size in Dubai soon.

WHat I dislike about all these cities desperately trying to get an identity (Shanghai, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and so on) is why do they have to copy the London Eye. It would be like saying Paris has a popular attraction, we should copy the Eiffel tower, that would be impressive.

It is copying what is now a cherished landmark for LOndoners. Come up with your own ideas.

Very nice design. I admire the taste of UAE in designing great structures.

that's like i would say: "don't build higher than burj dubai" because it is a big revolution in construction history.
heights of buildings are there to be topped, as well as other structures' heights.

your statement is nothing but nonsense. before the london eye there has been a world's largest ferris wheel as well (whereever this one is located)

have you ever heard of sick patriotism?

^Agreed. Let just say London dislike losing the title, if not some sort of developing inferiority complex is on its way from London forummers. Which there is no need for.

Barriers are there to be broken, UAE is the only country that seem to break every barrier at a fast pace and likes a challenge. Whereas in most countries it will take ages to do so, even if there is enough capital you got to deal with all kinds of rules and with NIMBY's as well.

Another thing every great structure that is build today will be an attraction in the next 100 years. Dubai is a city in the making and will be an icon city in the future of the times we live in now.

Nevermind you obviously dont equate the London Eye as a LONDON landmark. As you do the Eiffel Tower with Paris. The reason why us Londoners feel like this about blatant copies of the London eye is that we do consider it as much a London landmark defining our identity as a city as Big Ben or St Pauls. Therefore it is not like building a generic skyscraper or have anything to do with the what size it is but just like building a statue of liberty but much bigger than NY's, or a Sydney Opera House but much bigger.
