Roman Aqueduct, Kavala, Greece.

Roman Aqueduct, Kavala, Greece. 1530 AD.

The Roman aqueduct in Kavala, Greece. Its maximum height is 25 meters and has a total of 60 arches. Build in 1530 AD.

It is the most impressive aqueduct in Greece, and one of the greatest in Europe. It is preserved in perfect condition for 500 years.

Nice, but the aqueduct that stands was built under the Ottomans.

Indeed, but this type of architecture is called a "Roman Aqueduct". That does not mean that it is built during the Roman Empire.

Some more information: It was constructed in 1520-1530 under the Ottoman empire. Before that the old city of Kavala was destroyed and was uninhabited. The study of the lower section gives evidence of a previous aqueduct from the Roman Empire. These evidence date to a 1st-6th century AD aqueduct structure.

Total Length: 270 meters. Max Height: 25 meters.
First Row arches of: height 12 meters and opening of 5,6 meters.
Second Row arches of: height 8 meters and opening of 5 meters.
