The tower looks strong, modern and ambitious. Links work now.

Wheelock Square is the 2nd tallest scraper under construction in Shanghai presently. SWFC is the tallest u/c.

Correct...

It's being constructed on a 12.675 sq m/41.575 sq ft plot on Yan’an Road opposite of the Equatorial Hotel in the Jing An Su district and will have a gross floor area of 114.075 sq m/374.165 sq ft.

Therefore @ being 59-levels, Wheelock Square Tower will have a total of 107,687 sq m/353,212 sq ft gross floor area for the tower.

I find strange that such a tall tower without spire has only 59 floors.

Not necessarily strange for a few reasons.

First of all, its structural height is 298m/977ft but the height to roof below the glass wedged crown is 290m/951ft. Also it depends how tall the office floors are from floor to ceiling (the avarage office floor can range from 4m to 4.5m). The floorplates between the different office levels may also be quite thick.

If there are 1 or 2 plant/maintenance levels in the body of the tower they may take up to 2-levels each. Another factor could possibly be how tall the lobby is @ the bottom of the tower.

Anyway, 59 storeys it is!

...

It's Jing An Si, not Jing An Su. Si means temple. If you look at the update picture of July 16th, you can see Jing An Si at the right side of the picture. This whole area is called Jing An Si because of this sort of landmark temple. Jing An Si area is one of the business, entertainment and shopping centers of Shanghai, so inevitably you will see lots of highrise buildings over there.

When people think of Shanghai, they always think of Lujiazui in Pudong, and think that's everything of Shanghai's skyline. Anyone who ever visit Shanghai and go around the city will know how wrong that idea is. Lujiazui is mostly just a pompous and artificial showing-off in my eyes, and it's also so tiny! It has so little to do with the real Shanghai, both in terms of culture, landscape and architecture. Shanghai has so much more to offer than that ridiculous-looking Lujiazui skyline.
