SLC | Salt Lake City International Airport

Salt Lake City International is a bit outdated, but the 27th most busy airport in the world by aircraft movement is going through a gigantic facelift. The airport is a major Delta hub, with a whole terminal solely devoted to their use. The outdated airport has also been pushed for redevelopment by Delta, the airports largest user. This massive reconstruction will add a whole new terminal, as well as making SLC international one of the most modern airports in the world, with goals for Leed Gold certification and generating all of its own power through sustainable methods.Estimated completion in 2020.

QUE?!! How did you come up with that? It's not in the busiest top 50 airports in the world in terms of passengers by far (50th airport [Minneapolis] has 36,556,281 passengers per year, whereas Salt Lake City had only 22,141,610). As for Cargo it does not make the top 30 by farrrrr (Istanbul is 30th and had 771,240 tons in 2015). All based on 2015 data.

Also it makes no sense to combine cargo and passenger volume rank, because how would you combine them?

My bad, it's by aircraft movements.

A few things have changed with the New Airport plans:

1. The second concourse will be built in the first phase of the aiport.

2. This means that the entire old airport will be torn down and not grafted into the new airport.

3. The tunnel running underground connecting the two concourses will not have a tram, but rather, several moving walkways.

4. The first phase of the airport will be completed by 2020.

Probably outdated and small, not as efficient as a linear terminal, probably some ego about shiny and new. Might also reflect a new age of airline consolidation. Also looks like a much easier security configuration than numerous piers.

SLC | Salt Lake City International Airport

I wish they wouldn't tear down the old terminal, I'm quite fond of it from departing from it for many years. It'll be sad to see it go. When I get back from my mission the old terminal will be nonexistent and I will arrive at a new SLC International.
