Back in about 1980 I moved into the tower standing on its own in that 1990 photo

Rostamani Tower - we lived there until we left Dubai in 1984. In those days it was probably the most luxurious apartment block in Dubai.
Raza, to answer your questions, yes, we parked, and drove, on the sand most of the time, all over Dubai. In front of Rostamani Tower there was a bitumen driveway from SZR and a bitumen strip right in front of the building for parking. Jumeirah is off to the right of the photo. European expats lived in villas in Jumeirah and in apartment blocks in Deira, plus a few in Bur Dubai.

so the first glass building in dubai was the city tower in 1995? wow abu dhabi was much ahead of dubai. The first glass buildings in abu dhabi appeared in the early 80's and by 1990 Abu dhabi had a very dense skyline.
