Contrarily to what we may think, many (most?) koreans don't care much for the japanese occupation period when nothing too painful happened - it was just a period of stagnation. On the other hand, the Imjin wars and especially the korean war are much more bitterly remembered.

I'm looking for commonalities in how advertisements and streetscapes come together, rather than individual exceptions to the norm. The fact is, the common theme for Hong Kong's neon signs at the street level is hanging off sides of buildings.

Obviously large cities anywhere will have more concentrations of neon and lighting in general. That's a very obvious truth that can be said anywhere in the world.
Not all, Los Angeles doesn't much have a high concentration. Unlike Las Vegas which is smaller but has a high concentration of neon in its city centre obviously because of its presence of casinos, hotels, etc.

I don't recall really seeing neon lights anywhere in Los Angeles except that Universal CityWalk and Samsung building:

And you will notice it at night even from 30 miles away.

Of course LA does. I said lighting and neon. Any urban centre will have plenty of lighting, such as from street lights. I'd be hard-pressed if LA doesn't have neon signs, and you will not likely find them in the countryside around it.

I saw it from the 10 Freeway heading to Santa Monica and it was visible.

LA does have some neon but more on street level. But its concentration is not as high as those in Asian cities. Other than neon, one improvement the city has are digital billboards.

I would really like to learn how to take those panoramic shots. Unless they use a single lens and crop it with Photoshop

You mean a single shot?

I take anywhere from 5 - 20 shots and use a program called autostitch, which is free and imo does everything I want for a pano.

Panoramas can easily be made using a series of shots with the help of software. You don't need an awesome camera and lens to achieve the effect anymore.

The problem is the stitched pics have to be precise

Software will handle it. Even the Canon point and shoot digital cameras have functions to make stitching photos easier.

It helps if you have a special tripod instead of handling it with your own hands

Tripod doesn't help if you can't get the series of pictures to get the stitch right. Steady hands but wrong angles will not help with the panorama.

Yes stitching programs are good but useless without well aligned/exposured photos. Yes a tripod is useful for aligning the photos. We all know that already. Get over it kids, the self contradicting arguments in order to pretend to disagree are getting old.
