yeah... that has not also included the Serpong, Bintaro, Ciputat, Ciledug, South Tangerang, Cikarang, Serang, Rangkasbitung, etc. that are also considered as megapolitan Jakarta since the majority of people commute daily to Jakarta for work... those places i mentioned is also in neighbouring provinces of Jakarta...

of course Jakarta is not dense when compared to Bangkok or Metro Manila... if you're rating the best based on the density then that is your choice... but for me I also consider the skyscraper design as well when saying that Jakarta is one of the best in Southeast Asia...

Jakarta's urban centers are spread out all over the city (and separated quite far one to another), there are many CBDs in Jakarta which are located not in one area only. Many people only consider Sudirman CBD (SCBD) as the urban center, but there are still others CBD such as Mega Kuningan (South Jakarta), Kelapa Gading (North Jakarta), Pluit (North Jakarta), Simatupang (South Jakarta), and the newest one in Kembangan (West Jakarta).

I think because of that condition, Jakarta's skyline doesn't look like Manila or any other cities which has concentrated and densed highrises.
Metro Manila is kinda similar to Jakarta. Metro Manila has several CBDs and skyline clusters with Makati as the main one. The only difference is Metro Manila has a rapid transit system and is denser. Jakarta on the other hand has a bus rapid transit system which Metro Manila doesn't have.

I agree that Jakarta has impressive skyscrapers especially the Wisma 46. That's what Metro Manila lacks though there are some impressive skyscrapers coming out. Though I noticed alot of high-rise condos sprouting in these two cities resemble those of HKs.

yup Jakarta and Manila are similar in a way though I think Manila may be a bit more similar to Bangkok in having several dense skyline clusters... (in Manila they have Makati, Ortigas Center, FBGC, etc. and Bangkok with Silom, Sukhumvit, etc.)

whereas the main Jakarta's skyline is forming on a linear pattern on a stretch of 7 km along Jalan MH Thamrin and Jalan Sudirman..., with an emerging skyline as well in SCBD and Mega Kuningan...

anyway both Manila and Jakarta are getting very interesting highrises projects now...

Manila (Makati City) and Bangkok looks "massive". I like Hong Kong most followed by Shanghai

Here's my city:

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

image hosted on flickr

The City of Kuala Lumpur has only not more than 2 million people, but Greater KL has about 7 to 8 million people. The city is also relatively young as it was only officially founded in the year 1880 during the British colonial era.

Kuala Lumpur achieved city status only in 1972, becoming the first settlement in Malaysia to be granted the status after independence. Later, on February 1, 1974, Kuala Lumpur became a Federal Territory of Malaysia (something like District of Columbia).

Kuala Lumpur is now Malaysia's legislative capital. The city was once home to the executive and judicial branches of the federal government, but they have since moved to a new administrative capital city called Putrajaya starting in 1999. However, the city remains the cultural and economic centre of Malaysia and is rated as a gamma world city, the only global city in Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur has several iconic structures, including the Petronas Twin Towers (world's tallest twin towers), KL Tower (world's 5th tallest telecommunication tower), SMART Tunnel (world's first double-deck stormwater-cum-motorway tunnel), KL Court Complex (world's 2nd largest courthouse), Berjaya Times Square (world's 11th largest shopping mall and world's largest building built in a single phase of construction), Starhill Gallery (www.starhillgallery.com, one of Southeast Asia's luxurious, exclusive-only mall), Aquaria KLCC (one of the world's largest city aquarium), Cosmos World Theme Park (largest indoor theme park in Southeast Asia) amongst others.

KL is in tough competition with neighbouring capital cities to be the premier financial, shopping, education and tourism hub of Southeast Asia. KL alone has 66 shopping malls, but most of its trendy malls are clustered around a shopping road called Bukit Bintang (Star Hill).

image hosted on flickr

KL has its own "condominium precinct" called Mont'Kiara. World Forums Section --> http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=522048.

I like that KL set. More of those please.

No offense, but less of the Jakarta and Bangkok.

KUALA LUMPUR + SINGAPORE

KL and Singapore are two cousin sisters.

Kuala Lumpur

With more than 200 flights per week, the air route between the two cities is the busiest in Southeast Asia and the 4th busiest in Asia. The two cities combined is also home to the largest cluster of multinational headquarters (particularly finance sector) in Southeast Asia.
