Arguably the only good thing about the demolition of the Ritz-Carlton is that it temporarily gives us a full view of Cheung Kong Centre from the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade.

As far as I know, they're mostly the industrial estates, economic zones, etc. and the usual kampung or rural atmosphere except for few cities.
Its not skyline that we're talking about Mega Manila but more of urban sprawl. Any we might be seeing some high-rise developments in the outskirts south of Metro Manila. One of them in Laguna.

I have to admit that the view from The Peak these days isn't as magnificent as it used to be. High-rises in Mid-Levels are taller plus The 2-IFC.

never been to Manila so please tell me if i am wrong, but it feels like the high rise parts of the city at street level is kinda dead? much like some American cities? that it is a place where no people live and that go dread after office hours?

this is just what i guess from pictures, we don't get many street pics here (except from Jakarta ) so please enlight me!

No way man! In fact street activity is comparable to HK or NY. But it gets quiet in the CBDs on a weekends unless you're in the mall areas.

In all the CBDs in Metro Manila, Makati has the most street activity compared to Ortigas. Fort on the other hand is pretty much empty on street level unless you're in High Street.

I saw some street pics of Jakarta as well. Alot of pics I saw the streets seemed empty or laid back. Its more a car oriented city just like Los Angeles.

BKK does has have alot of street activity happening especially in the city centre.

I've been to Manila and its crowded on street level. In fact the city even has street life.

But it gets empty in the CBD areas during the weekends unless you're within the shopping mall areas.

the 'street life' only comes when the office cluster and residential cluster are mixed and located within the same plot/area. if the office towers are only side by side with hotels, then the street life is not really what peoples refer as 'street life'.

the best street life is HK and Bangkok.

HK, the city where shops are on the ground level while houses are on shop. this will create a 24 hrs city. where peoples are easy to move from their home to the shops...

Bangkok, with no clear CBD cluster, where residential are popping everywhere is another good example. the city center is alive 24 hrs.

NY, Tokyo has the same pattern. well, the main reason is the population. the more people in the city, the more livelier it will be....

i see the whole Metro Manila as one Manila. not like what pinoys see; Makati city, Quezon city, Taguig city (Fort Bonifacio), Pasig city (Ortigas) as different city. from the picture itself, those cities are not that far to each other to justify them as a 'city' or as another entity.

let us compare the size/area of Kuala Lumpur under the KL City Hall's territory with Metro Manila's main cities local authority:

KL : 243.65 km2
Makati : 27.36km2
Manila : 38.55km2
Pasig : 31.00km2
Taguiq : 47.88km2
Quezon: 161.12km2

it may bcoz of the population, but i don't understand the reason to separate them. authorities are not even do very well managing those...so far, only Fort Bonifacio is doing good.
