I wouldn't say that they are low quality, but rather quite dirty. That's the problem of a high humidity climate which makes buildings look weathered. HK faces some very powerful typhoons every summer, yet there are rarely incidents of buildings being severely damaged.

You could also argue that many highrises are lacking in originality, but usually these ones are pretty high quality. Replicated highrises are master planned with parks, shopping and excellent transport links.

Singapore

Just thought i'd share some pictures that have been floating in the SG forums of late:

taken by Andrew JK Tan

you can see the skyline extension with new offices and the casino almost up.

from the government website

The skyline looking from Chinatown

The skyline during Formula one with the track lit up, from wahliao.com

Aerial shot showing the whole country, the northern land mass being Malaysia.

None of these pictures are mine!

Great choice of selection though. I'd say they are good picks as theyre pretty recent. In fact with the extension of the CBD it would open new photo opportunities for photography.

Can people explain to me why Jakarta's skyline is so good? I have seen people spamming Jakata's pics all over this forum.. IMHO it wouldn't even be called a skyline, its more like a few buildings spread out in a huge area.

There have been "talks" that KL has identified 3 sites for the construction of new iconic super-towers for the city.

Each of the sites have been rumoured to contain a building of up to 100 storeys. If built as early as this year and completed in few years time, they will replace the Petronas Twin Towers as the greatest landmark of Kuala Lumpur.

the skyline in Jakarta is not centralized, actually there are 3 CBDs CMIIW. But, you can see the whole skyline when you see them from (very) far away.. Like this one I did. (You can see this in Google Earth including those 3d buildings, just search 'Jakarta')

My opinion :
Hong Kong : good but too much skyscrapers
Shanghai : same with HK
Singapore : good combination of skyscrapers and foliage
Kuala Lumpur : good, thanks to Petronas Towers
Metro Manila : well centralized skyscrapers
Bangkok : Good density but lack of iconic skyscrapers
Jakarta : Many iconic skyscrapers but too spread

Nope but so far from what i have seen from the pictures, the skyline is not impressive at all IMO, and i believe we are discussing the "Best Asian Skyline" here. Forget what i have said, i guess this thread has turned into a showcase of whatever city you came from.

So then,...here i go...from LONLSEDON, xitek

Well I can assume that many of us would agree Shanghai, Tokyo, and Hong Kong are pretty much at the top but the question is what comes after that. But looking at this thread everything mostly after the three are mostly very random.

Good question, personally I'm willing to nominate KL and Manila, BKK's skyline is good but not seemingly unique.
