dont get the same feeling looking at Shanghai.
Yes, I would agree if we were to only look at pictures. In pictures, HK skyline looks more dominating and imposing than Shanghai. But in person, I feel that HK is not as powerful as I imagined it would be. Shanghai on the other hand, can simply be overwhelming. Especially on the freeways where you're already a few stories high and you look above you and there is still a massive skyline with buildings layered upon one another. And the sheer expanse and vastness of it all is truly spectacular. The only other place I would say has more of that feeling is NY. Where you can be staring at an already very tall building that is overpowered by even taller and bigger buildings layered on top of it. The effect is simply mindblowing.

Hong Kong is number one. It has density, height, and a dramatic, picture-perfect location. It also has iconic skyscrapers which are some of the best designed in the region.

Shanghai isn't far behind. Like Hong Kong, it is dense, and the architecture of its best and tallest are unique and memorable.

I think there's no contest, but of course it's just my opinion.

Third place is actually a more interesting debate. I'd say it goes to KL. Petronas is magnificent and it gives the skyline an identity severely lacking in equally, densely impressive skylines like Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila and Seoul.

Singapore is also a skyscrapercity of class architecture. It no longer is the safe collection of quite tall buildings before the Flyer and Marina Bay Sands. It has to be in the top ten.

in my opinion:
1. Hong Kong
2. Shanghai
3-4. KL,Singapore
5-7. Bangkok, Jakarta and Manila
8. Guangzhou, number 3 with a few more supertalls
9. any happening Chinese city behind Guangzhou. Shenzen, maybe?
10. elsewhere in Asia

Shanghai, Asian Skyline-hood's Big Brother

The photo was taken early last year. The High-rise apartment building right in the middle blocked the view of Middle Huaihai Road/People's Square Skyline. The image also missed the Xujiahui and Changning Skylines which suppose be on your further left hand side.
