Sg may not be able to compete with HK or Shanghai cos Singapore dont have supertalls, not because singapore cant afford to but due to height restriction of 300m thanks to a military airbase nearby CBD. However Singapore has 100+ buildings above 150m and most of them are new modern buildings.

Sg has a very good skyline, well planned city state, clean, green and good public infrastructure (maybe world best).
I'll interfere here. World's best public infrastructure must go to Tokyo (No doubt). Singapour might be clean but not as clean as most Japanese cities. The CBD is apparently quite massive, but you can't compare it with an older and denser Tokyo and a more modern and taller skyline of Shanghai or Hong-Kong. By the way, Singapour has around 70 buildings above 150 m. 100+? Don't exaggerate too much man.

Hehe, I must say that finally, I found somebody who didn't get impressed by the massive insane high class public transport in Tokyo, Osaka or even yokohama.
Good to see different opinions, but no offense, it's going to be the joke of the year if you compare Singapour to Tokyo or even Osaka.
Tokyo and Osaka were already built up when Singapour started to modernize. What helps Singapour is the massive foreign investements (including the Japanese and the American investements). I call Singapour Swizerland of Asia, but at a lower scale. Maybe that's the only compliment that I can come up with.
You are just talking with a sense of pride. I understand that. But the reality and the facts are always different .

I was indeed impressed by the public transport as i mentioned that but i dont like the skyline of Tokyo. It look not so well organized and maybe thats my point of view. I am actually not a singaporean neither i do feel pride for Singapore but its just that after travelling major Asian cities, I find Singapore still the best for me. Its not only clean, safe and green, Singapore also has good facility to support the physically challenged with every little attention paid to in order to make all place in Singapore wheelchair friendly, blind people or others. Everywhere in Singapore has wheelchair lot, wheelchair lift, wheelchair toilet even slopes and wheelchair table in restaurants and coffee shops. So far no Asian cities come close.

Tokyo glories probably for me has been a past. Singapore has been on the rise and challenging for top city in Asia, just look at the median income, top 4 financial hub, unemployment rate, GDP per capita, port, airport, etc in every aspect has beaten Tokyo and Osaka.

Tokyo was in today thanks to USA help after the WW2

By the way its 'Singapore' not Singapour

I implore you to make a second visit to Tokyo. Singapour has only one central district. In Tokyo there are about 5 or 6 that make up huge skylines. I'll say it again, Tokyo is safer, greener and cleaner by a long shot. Not only that, but Tokyo will make 5 of Singapour, mind you.
Tokyo is Tokyo. A city without glorious past can't be qualified as a top class city. If Tokyo is not up to the current standards, probably they wouldn't have been handed the Olympics. They know that it's a world class city and they know the Japanese mentality. By the way, not to upset you but, re-check your sources, but Tokyo is still ahead of Singapour being the premium financial center of Asia.

You know nothing about history. Tokyo, and Japan in general did rise up after the war because of their work ethics, honesty and determination. I didn't appreciate that that much until I came here. They are robots, they work hard, they actually changed the face of Asia. They invented a lot of stuff and they did change a lot of things in this world. Relax, US has nothing to do with the prosperity of Japan. Unless you try to fantasize about it.

And let's be honest, without the heavy foreign investments in the 80's, Singapour would be just another average city.

Regarding size, well singapore indeed small but yet without any natural resources even land space unlike Tokyo and Japan plus bigger population. But a smaller city doesnt make that city lose out to a bigger city. Even though Tokyo has more CBD 5-6 compared to singapore about 3, Singapore has more high rise buildings that spread out across the city
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...rise_buildings

and regarding the financial hub, Singapore has overtaken Tokyo few years back
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_..._Centres_Index
This shows that people are more assured to invest in Singapore as compared to Tokyo as stats shown.

Regarding mentality of work, I indeed amazed by how the Japanese works and i had to reckon that as well as Singaporean are not as hardworking as them. But this could also shows that Living in Tokyo is very stressful as you need to work harder and longer period, lack of play time left.

and regarding safety as well as whether the city is livable,
http://www.mfa.gov.sg/content/mfa/me..._20121011.html

and according to Global city index, both Singapore and Tokyo are in same Alpha+ category.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_city
Well couldnt say Singapore lack behind Tokyo but they could be on par.

Last but not least, Singapore is a small city state country that can do wonder such as World most ease in doing business, best airport, most busy port container, largest ferris wheel, most expensive building and some other facts such as least corrupt government
http://www.edb.gov.sg/content/edb/en.../rankings.html

In and out i think both cities has her pros n cons. Maybe you are right I need a second visit to Tokyo and I will given if opportunity comes. I would like to visit Tokyo again and maybe that will change my perception toward Tokyo better. For the link, i opt most for wiki though it might be inaccurate but easy.

Even though your posts are extremely city vs city with very wrong/biased information (for example Tokyo's PPP per capita is $67,000 higher than Singapore, and it's nominal is even much higher than Singapore's, as well as the joke of the alpha city list which has so many outrageous positions of european/american/japanese/chinese cities it's not even worth mentioning) I agree with you here. The one thing I found quite impressive about Singapore over other asian cities (including Tokyo) was how supportive it was for the physically challenged. By the way kimiwind if his main point is only about skyline there isn't much to argue..Tokyo certainly doesn't have a very cohesive skyline so if one person really values an organized skyline than Singapore's certainly is better. I think if you individually look at Tokyo's CBD's they look pretty good though. I personally like "massive" skylines so I have Tokyo over Singapore.

If you really think Japan (and Germany) are where they are today only because of the US...well I could write a huge post about that in a PM if you want.
