In Taiwan, especially Taipei is hard hard hard to build any tall buildings!
because Taipeinese got very strong environmental consciousness, they wanna tree and huge green area, not skyscraper.

take a look at singapore, tall modern glassy building can actually blend well with the green environment

can not agree, Taipei is flat because Taipei is a small scale city, even though they used to be proud that Taipei 101 was the tallest building in the world several years ago!

I think seoul has the same mindset as taipeinese thats why you don't see much tall buildings in seoul.

However we can see singapore does achieve both skyscraper and green, create a massive skyline and concentrated one. So no excuse for taipei

Taipei not a skyscraper-friendly city
in city center we got a airport -- Songshan int' Airport, it's make most area in Taipei City got height limit.

Second, Community involvement is very high in Taipei City, every citizen can give the comment about any construction in the city
Taipeinese is worry about huge construction will damage the environment
watch the news in Taiwan, u can see many protest in Taipei, against the construction about cut tree and the other...

Many huge project and corporate headquarters its already move out Taipei to another cities, like Banqiao, Kaohsiung, Xinzhuang and Taichung
that cities will arise massive skyscraper.

I am not taipeinese but I often visit taipei, at least once in two years
I watch Taipei news almost everyday like cti and tvbs news
I know there is height limit in the city just like Singapore due to airbase close proximity to the cbd
Maybe you can refer to this article for singapore height restriction
http://www.ura.gov.sg/skyline/2000/0...ew_heights.pdf
Singapore has been developing well with restrictions though

From here I can refer that Taipei dont have good city planning like other cities.
I assume Taipei share same fate as Seoul but we still can see great skyline in Seoul
Seoul

One thing I hate about Taipei 101, it kills the Skyline.
I do hope Taipei will have more concentrated skyline around that Taipei 101 to make things nice

The population of Taipei is about 2.7 million, why do you need a supertall like 101 considering Taipei is not a skyscraper-friendly city as you said?

ermmm.. i used to study in taiwan for two years and i cnt agree with you
Kaohsiung and taichung doesnt have much skyscraper as well.

again, take singapore as a good example, they doesnt have any supertall building in the city but the skyline looks modern and balanced. most important it blended so well with the green environment and then it is well organized

if there's a height restriction in Taipei, any building below 550m (taipei 101's height) should be acceptable to be built, as there's a one existing big tower there

yeah, i think it's not because taipei101 is low profile.
it just simply because the building is not very attractive that's the reason why Taipei101 hasn't been discussed by many forumer
