There is very little impetus to travel to Beijing and Shanghai by rail. There is an overnight train service in place right now, but flying is very cheap, especially on mainland carriers. Thus, the preferable way is by air, even for nearby cities in Guangxi and even Fujian.

Even with HSR, it'll still take a lot of hours to get to Shanghai, let alone Beijing. It's not a viable option for the average traveller / businessman.

I agree... apart from Cebu, certain parts of Penang skyline resembles HK, certain parts Singapore...

True that it's very impractical if you travel from HK to Beijing by train.

Flying on mainland carriers is cheap but what worries me is the safety.

Mainland carriers haven't experienced a major crash in many years. Your worries are a decade outdated.

Get postcards. $2 a piece and you can get a stack without filling up the suitcase.

Not really ... within that picture, the balance is actually fairly even among the supertalls.

Hanoi Road redevelopment - commercial
Sorrento - residential
Harbourside - residential
The Arch - residential
3 commercial supertalls under construction, including ICC

It's gonna be balance once the office towers in Union Square are completed. Like I said in the other threads, I don't mind the developments happening in Kowloon except The Hanoi Road one.
