Not all but most foreigners view it that way with most Asian cities especially those from North America.

I remembered when one thought HK is in Japan or rickshaws are the main form of transportation.

I've had an Aussie so surprised that I take LRT to school ...

Most Western perception of most part of Asia except Japan and HK is still as bad as 3 decades ago.

Japan and to some extent, Korea can be exceptions. But HK can still be mistaken by alot of westerners especially those who haven't seen the place.

Aerials distort the skyline's height though, despite giving a good view of the skyline's breadth and depth. Tall and short buildings will just be boxes on an aerial. Will need to look at the shadows to really determine how tall the boxes are in reality.

True but some aerials can be breathtaking such the one of Los Angeles.

Taipei 101 was one of several skyscrapers featured on the National Geographic channel last night here in Asia. It talked about how the 8 segments represents good luck, how 99 means longevity, 100 means perfection, and 101 (the # of stories on the building) signified more than perfection.

The corners of the building were also adjusted after wind tunnel testing showed swaying problems beyond engineers' expectations.

Nevertheless, Taipei's skyline needs to get taller for a more stunning visual effect. They have the mountain backdrop to make a skyline look very nice.

Taipei 101 is a perfect scraper for the this city. If they are gonna build more high-rises, better than built it near this scraper.
