This was just proposed. They still have to demolish the existing highrise, get the proposal approved from council, and sell units - a typical procedure for getting a building constructed. The good news is that it doesn't need to submit a rezoning application so construction could start at least 1 year from now (which would be extremely fast).

Thank you for explaining the procedure of typical development, that makes it easier to understand why some threads are A bit slow.

Vancouver's 42-Storey Empire Landmark Hotel Targeted for Demolition
Quote:
Condominium projects have taken over the skies of Vancouver, changing the composition of the downtown core along the way. Most of these developments are replacing surface parking lots or low-slung buildings, but a new proposal for a valuable lot along Robson Street — one of the city's main thoroughfares — underlines just how hot the residential property market really is.

that old hotel tower looks great. ordinarily, i'd be all for building, but pulling down a great tower like the one currently on the site, damn.
