It is.

About the trains, you haven't seen the new ones that they bought. They're really nice.

Cheers!

I see people critisizing santiago's metro, you guys really have to be there to see it, its very clean, practical, secure, modern, and uptodate. compareble to a lot of metro systems in europe and U.S. some stations have WI-fi, library, there is art in most in most stations. its in my opinion an amazing metro system BEST in Latin America, and very close to any metro system in the world. GOOD JOB SANTIAGO

IDB Approves $400M Loan For Chilean Transportation System
23 April 2008

SANTIAGO (Dow Jones)--The Inter-American Development Bank on Wednesday announced the approval of a $400 million loan to provide financial support to Transantiago, the public transportation system of Chilean capital Santiago.

The resources from this non-sovereign guarantee loan will be managed by Transantiago Financial Administrator (AFT), the private-sector entity responsible for the public transportation system's payments and collections, the IDB said in a statement.

The IDB loan will also support Chile's comprehensive plan to improve the operation and quality of Transantiago's bus and subway services, which are used by some 5.4 million passengers a day, it added.

The Chilean government plans to send Congress a bill on a subsidy for Transantiago, seeking to ensure the public transportation system's long-term financial equilibrium. Transantiago's operation costs total about $1.3 billion a year, the IDB said.

Launched in February 2007, the large-scale change in bus and underground rail transit has had a troubled implementation.

Passengers have experienced long waits and overcrowding on buses and on the subway. The problems ran so deep that they triggered a cabinet shuffle.

On presenting the loan to the Board of Executive Directors, President Luis Alberto Moreno said it allows the IDB to stand behind a project that is a top priority for Chile and a point of reference for Latin America. Transantiago, he added, will help improve living standards by reducing travel time, accidents, noise and pollution in Chile's principal city, the IDB said.

"We all know that Transantiago, a singularly ambitious project, has had difficulties in its implementation. However, this situation is being turned around thanks to the commitment and the efforts of the Chilean government, private sector operators and the public," Moreno said.

The IDB is also preparing a $10 million loan for a program led by Chile's Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications to establish the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which will monitor Transantiago's services. The program will also support the financial and economic analyses of public transportation systems in other Chilean cities, IDB added.

Congratulations for chile's people, at first for their future's vission besides the outstanding quality of the stations and cleanliness
I wish that one day Montevideo could have a metro network like that
From Uruguay with love
