Thank you to forumer Mariosantiaguino.

New Santiago metro train destroyed in shipping mishap
Tuesday, May 10, 2016

CAF has filed a claim with insurers after a new driverless metro train for Santiago worth $US 7.3m was written off in a shipping accident during delivery from Spain

The five-car train was completely destroyed in an incident which occurred at sea during the final leg of the voyage after the ship had called at the port of Lima in Peru. The full extent of the damage only became apparent after the ship had docked at its final destination of Valparaiso, Chile

It was a terrible event, but hopefully Metro S.A had not receive yet the order when the accident happended. So, all the insurance involved were activated and the trains were sent back to Spain.

Metro said this incident would not affect the opening of the line 3 and line 6

Indeed! Excelent news

Btw, here there're some photos of the president's visits to the:

Guys, do you now another metro system that has a rigid catenary supported by cables? I'm surprised our metro have that kind of structure in the new lines. I'd never seen anything like that before.

Greetings!

Really? I didn't know that suspension structure was so common. Are there some advantages or is just an architectural decision?

It´s a matter of current capacity which can be more easily transmitted via an aluminium-rail at the roof, whereas the pantograph itself touches a cable beneath the aluminium-rail because it would not be useful to touch the aluminium-rail itself for some reasons. Also it saves space in tunnel in contradiction to a normal catenary. I hope this was understandable as my technical english lacks of some words.

Kind regards
