Today the most remarkable original prewar buildings there (besides the Cathedral and remaining churches) , I think, are the Polizeipräsidium and Stadthalle near the current Nordbahnhof, and the Königsberger Börse, which is just south from the Kneiphof. Also, some city gates, barracks and bastions from the old fortifications still exist.

What a shame that the Red Army basically burned through every Town they entered; I'm specifically thinking of Danzig/Gdansk and Kustrin/Kostrzyn n. Orda. Nonetheless, I appreciate the record and availability of these pictures.

Very helpful comment thanks. i was confused that these are painting or photos.

Hildesheim, another gem destroyed in WW2

The so-called everted sugar loaf, which will get reconstructed, as far as I know:

House from 1384, altered in the 16th century:

@ Karasek, the Zuckerhut of Hildesheim is already reconstructed.

Looks pretty odd in between the modern buildings though...

Beautiful reconstruction and yes it really looks odd, almost strange, among those modern buildings.

For me it looks a bit like plastic, although this is probably due to the modern buildings around it. If the surroundings are rebuilt as well, the area will surely look great.

Another angle of Zuckerhut

Agree and the best would be to reconstruct the whole area.

So do I, but it does look strange. The great problem with reconstructing timber-framed or fachwerk buildings is one of TIME! Come back in 500 years and the sugar loaf house will look great. Unfortunately we don't have that luxury, although the great Knochenhaueramtshaus in Hildesheim looks pretty good now, IMO.

I uploaded this photo btw: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...6bius_1937.JPG

It's perhaps about to disappear because some Wiki-"nazi" thinks Walter Möbius who died in the 50s should have given his permission that I upload it to Wikimidia.

See deletion discussion page: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Co...6bius_1937.JPG

A little support to keep the photo of the new town hall would be really appreciated.

You always feel like you've been punched in the stomach when you see those pics of Dresden.

Don't worry, I already found a way to communicate with Möbius.
