Unfortunately, there aren't many Prussian/German buildings left in the city, because almost all were demolished during or after WW2 (and Poles didn't really care about German cultural heritage after the War.

Between 1945 and the late 1960s Polish artisans restored much of the old city's architecture, up to 90% destroyed in the war. The reconstruction was not tied to the city’s pre-war appearance, instead its politically motivated purpose was to rebuild an idealized pre-1793 state (when the city was under Polish crown). Any traces of German tradition were ignored or regarded as "Prussian barbarism" worthy of demolition while Flemish-Dutch, Italian and French influences were emphasized.
So, why are you posting here in a thread about Germany? Seems that there is no place for bashing other peoples here or their heritage or, am I missing something?

sorry to raise this issue erbse and UrbanMyth once again. I have read and re-read what RS_UK-PL wrote several times and can't find any note of hate just very raw objectivity. We Poles over the last while have made a diligent effort to suppress feelings and emotions about that horrible period so that we can communicate effectively and honestly with Germans about the past while confining our discussion to the fascinating subject of architecture and city planning. It looks like there are people on both sides who still are being a little too sensitive.

on the more enjoyable subject, I really enjoy this thread. it's a shame so much was destroyed. when I daydream about cities, these are the kind of places, rich in detail and brimming with vitality that I think about. excellent job. come visit us sometime

Beautiful pictures of Magdeburg.

But oh so depressing it is to know that it is now arguably the ugliest city in Eastern Germany.

And irreparably so at that

Especially to compare the pictures of former Insterburg from then and now are hurting me, these were really nice cities in my opinion...

Is there any chance to rebuild the church of Tilsit/Sovetsk?

Dunno, but they want to reconstruct the Ulrichskirche in Magdeburg shown above (2017)!
It was one of the oldest churches in this part of Germany.

More about that: http://www.ulrichskirche.de/cms/wiederaufbau.html
