Leipzig, Church of St. John the Evangelist (Johanniskirche)

This church, built in the 14th century, got destroyed in 1547 and was reconstructed between 1582 and 1584. A Baroque bell tower was built as an addition to the Gothic church in the mid-18th century.

Between 1894 and 1897 Saxon architect Hugo Licht reconstructed the church as a Neo-baroque building. The remains of Johann Sebastian Bach were moved to this church where his second wife Anna Magdalena was also buried (but in an unmarked grave). A new portal was built.

The church was damaged by Allied bombing during WW2. Bach's remains were moved to the Thomaskirche. Christian Gellert's body was moved to the Paulinerkirche.

The remains of the nave were leveled in 1949. The Baroque belfry was restored (!) and stood there until its demolition in 1963.

Nuremberg looks great, thanks for all those pics. There are plenty of shots online of the Pellerhaus exterior but none of the interior.

That place badly, badly needs a full reconstruction and demolish the 1950s garbage that is there.

You're right, it better should get reconstructed soon. But I've posted an image of the courtyard:

There is already since 2005 an plan to rebuild the Pellerhaus, but I don't know if they are undertaking serious plans on the moment

Pellerhaus now:

Time to demolish that 50'ies crap and reconstruct the original Pellerhaus.

As I have seen on pictures, this part of the city near Pellerhaus is allmost whole gone. There was some square or what?
Though i know that the biggest part of Nuremberg's centre is gone despite the reconstruction.

The plan is to reconstruct the courtyard through private donations, I think. There are no plans to do the interior or the facade, as the 1950s crap is a listed building itself.

I could be wrong though (I hope I am).
