Haha, that's not nice to the poles.

Does anyone know of there exist prewar pictures of Eupen? It's a quite small town but the biggest german 'city' in Belgium, and nowadays also pretty ugly (not to say very ugly). I wonder how it looked in the past.

The Malbork cathedral that soon will be reconstructed/repaired

The reconstruction of the church in Malbork castle.

http://www.dziennikbaltycki.pl/artyk...ckie,id,t.html

The decision on how to rebuild the church of St. Mary in Malbork castle has fallen. The debate on the most important Teutonic temple renovation lasted for several months between scientific authorities and experts on the history, preservation, archeology and art. Experts from Poland and outside the country took part in the discussions. Today, it is already known that the Church of Our Lady will look almost like in medieval times. The reconstruction will cost more than 20 million zł, and the work will last for several years. (approximately 2 to 5 years).

No war-related discussions or provocative posts in here! NONE!

Thank you.

Thanks for posting the construction pics of Marienburg! It doesn't really belong here either but it's pretty interesting. There was nothing going on last summer (2011) when I was there.

When did they start, when do they finish and how much are they reconstructing?
Are there any visualizations or a thread?
Thanks a lot!

The reconstruction take place since the end of the war (pretty awesome considering the curcumstances).
This is how it looked like:

I'm pretty convinced that recently there was decision to reconstruct the interiors of castle church, but I'm not sure of that.
When will that end? It's a very big castle and still a lot to do.

Rychlik: Please don't. That's not how it should be done.

And again: NO such discussions in here. Thanks. Merry Christmas!

A terrible shame....

Cold Volition: despite the opposition you seem to provoke, I can fully understand your emotional reaction upon so much destruction and obvious despiction of Germanies awesome and spectacular city landscapes and architecture before 1940.

All modern rubbish is at most second rate compared to the original architecture.
All those beautiful streets and squares in Berlin, Stettin, Breslau, Magdeburg, Dresden, kassel and Mannheim we can see on the large photographs are now robbed of their great charm and powerful architectural impression. They were in fact even far more beautiful in real life than rendered on the black-white photographs. Can you realy imagine all those millions of buildings with their beautiful interiors all are gone (forever!)??

And the medieval core of Frankfurt a.M. was lost forever.

I guess it was so hard for them to at least rebuild the Paulskirche vault as it was before the war.
