I thought the second one had been looking the same for a long time (since re-erection of the monument at least). What changes do you mean?

Basically all of them. Just the three small turrets in the far background are not there anymore.

The dome, missing so far, is being recontructed right now:

Although I don't want to justify allied area bombing: yes. Anklam, a small city in Vorpommern, for example was destroy by the Luftwaffe after the soviets occupied it.

Not until the cathedral's original domes are rebuilt - something that is apparently even harder to accomplish than the whole stadtschloss...

Question: Do you know if there are any pictures of the façade of Alte Philarmonie in Berlin? I want to do a new model, but until now I 've only seen interior views (or the ruin), like this one:

When I look at these pictures and then look at German cities today it makes me so sad to see that all those buildings were destroyed. But great thread anyways.

Indeed. In addition, Soviets ruined most of the last remnants of Anklam.

But at least the city makes an effort.
For example, they've torn down a commieblock cruelty at the market square
and replace it with this, almost reconstructions:

by Planungsbüro Kühn Anklam

Before WW2:

by Sammlung des Museums im Steintor, Anklam

The new building (brick gablehouse) would be even better than the pre-war situation shown here:

New postmodern west side of the Anklam market:

Fascinating, especially the pictures of old hamburg. The narrow alleys and leaning buildings are quite picturesque, but I can't help thinking that they were less than pleasant to live in.
