Underground parking and LRT will reduce the need for parking.

Whoa that is impressive. What proposal is this?

Also can they build office towers on top of Square One like they did with Eaton Center?

Any idea when construction begins on all this?

It was put forward by the owners of SQ1 but it's still with the city, I'm not sure where it stands. I think SQ1 should build a hotel/condo/office/convention centre on the site, I think it would do well.

It's going to look pretty good from the Square.

Square one is a massive monolith, but if you develop the parking lots, that reduces its impact.
Eventually, one could re-develop the actual mall with retail at grade and 20-80 floors above. It couldn't be done all at once. They could shutter sections of the mall in stages with tenants moving to already built replacement buildings where the parking lot currently is.

With some vision, the entire footprint of Square One could end up with a street grid like downtown Toronto. If people really want an enclosed mall bits of it could end up like the Eaton Centre while other bits like The Well.

Leaving the actual mall as is permanently is a missed opportunity imo.

Downtown Miss. is really intensifying. I'm wondering when will the Square One be built up. By that I mean the parking lots around the mall, building on top of parts of the mall, and also building on the immediately area surrounding the mall, ie. where the Whole Foods and other stores are.
