A 75-storey "World Trade Centre" that would be Perth's biggest skyscraper will be built in the centre of the city by private developers under plans backed by the WA Government.
The proposed World Trade Centre would cost $1.85 billion to build and be linked to 327 other World Trade Centres in 91 locations around the world, including in New York where the landmark twin towers were destroyed in the September 11 attacks.
The project would be built next to Perth's main railway station and over and adjacent to railway lines east of the station.
The private developers World Trade Centers Holdings are owned by Cyprus-based Nest Investments Holdings Ltd, which controls $4.8 billion in assets, chairman Ghazi Abu Nahl said at the launch of the Perth project on Wednesday.
Premier Colin Barnett said the project would include two towers, one 75 storeys and one 36 and commercial, residential and entertainment precincts on 1.9ha of land.
One of those towers would surpass Central Park building in Perth, now the city's tallest building where miner Rio Tinto is based.
"That a developer is willing to make this investment demonstrates strong confidence in the future of Perth and has the ability to stimulate diverse trade and investment opportunities for the state," he said.
"The Indian Ocean region is going to be increasingly important; Perth as Australia's Indian Ocean, west coast capital needs to capitalise on that."
The developer is still negotiating approval for the project and buying the state-owned land through the Barnett Government's unsolicited bid process but has already bought a large former Myer site building nearby for $50 million.

Yes, the towers have very clean, simple lines. Quite nice.

That podium, though, is a bit...noisy. Still very cool to see something like this in Perth.

a lot of skyscrapers suffer from an unattractive street level, i like skyscrapers on top of huge malls the most, it draws more people into the places and the skyscrapers become more part of the experience, think 'Wanda Plaza' like malls. With lots of lights and shops, this will make the area more vibrant.

Mall podiums still make for a terrible street-level experience. At least the vast majority of the time they do. They usually arent much better than a giant open plaza in terms of the damage they do to a city's streetscape.

Funny to think of a "world trade center" in a city that's thousands of kilometers from everything...

Loved my stay in Perth; it's such a beautiful and clean city. I might have to go back and monitor the progress should this project get off the ground. The C restaurant would provide great views until it's tall enough to see from King's Park.

Very Good news for Perth the most isolated metropolis in the World.

I like how the towers lean away from each other, and i think the square tower is a very good Modern interpretation of the Classic New York world trade centre.

And i agree that the Ground level is very messy.

Perth World Trade Centre latest news:

"Following the sale of public lands at the heart of Perth's city centre to real estate giant and Chairman of the World Trade Center Association, Jordanian billionaire Ghazi Abu Nahl, the developer's proposal for a $1.85 billion (AUD) mixed-use project has been given the green light by Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett."

These are not approved, and with no plans lodged yet they're at best proposed. Thread title needs a change.
