maggie thatcher... god. i cant believe people say we are reaping the rewards, we havent even started fixing the cost yet... just wait till deregulation goes out of control. given the state of everything from our hospitals and schools to huge levels of child poverty, a massive underclass, to a railway system that doesnt work we havent come close to fixing the problems of thatcherism. maybe the economy is doing ok but if as the govt says we are richer than ever why dont they spend more money? well thats because people are more selfish, and thats because of thatcherism.

I cried when Joe Strummer died, as well as Jonny Ramone. When Jello Biafra goes I might be bedridden. I can see their ideas dying with them.

I nearly cried when they showed the funeral of John Peel, and his coffin being carried out of the church with "Teenage Kicks" blaring out.

Still hard to believe he's gone.

John Peel is definately an example of someone who was taken before their time.

I'm not so sure. Privatised railways for instance haven't been much of a success. As for trade unions, striking over stupid little things is absurd but the very right to strike is an important one.

The privatisation of the railways has been a disaster - but was not a Thatcher privatisation - it was John Major one.

They should have followed the Japanese model of saying if you want the most productive lines, you have to take on the loss making regional ones and invest so much in them and run a pre set service. Each company is also responsible for the stations, tracks and trains.

Here it's a bit of everything and the regional railways (in South Cheshire at least, have had a real kick in the nuts, because each company goes for the high speed money making routes and ignores the regional stations, trains etc.

Sir Bobby Robson.

And I'm afraid it won't be too long either.

Yes I have brought another dead thread up, but I think it is needed still, and besides, I'd cry if it was to die.

WTF....cry?

I was shocked when Elvis died, when John Lennon was murderered and, bizarrely, when it came through that Geoff Hamilton (of Gardeners World) dropped dead.

With both Elvis and John Lennon I was listening to radio City (Liverpool's commercial radio station) with my brother. You could tell that the DJs where genuinely shocked... maybe they even cried?

I dont cry - crying is for girly men. Dont think I have cried in 20 years.

However, if I did cry for a celebrity dying it would probably be Terry Wogan.
