Speculation: When Do You Think Boeing Will Terminate the 747 program?

When do you think Boeing will finally pull the plug on the 747-8?

I'd say the year after the new Air Force One planes are delivered, presumably sometime in 2024.

Word on the street is that the USAF wil use the 747-8F as the base for the B-52 replacement.

My guess is that the 747 line will be kept open as 747-8F orders continue to come in. After all, there are a lot of old 747 freighters that need replacement and the conversion of the 747-400 into a freighter is only an interim solution.

The likely last 747-8I's built will be the replacement for the VC-25A.

If it does turn out that I am wrong about the demise of both the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380, I won't hesitate to admit it. In fact, I'll be glad to be wrong -I want these planes to continue in some form for another half-century at least. Preferably as passenger jumbo jets, though freight is somewhat okay. It is just that I have had my hopes raised before only to see them crash to the ground.

So it will take more than just unsubstantiated rumors.
