Here's a photo I took back in 2011 when passing through Philly on a New York-bound train.

I still find Chicago's skyline more attractive than NYC's. The buildings seem to fit together more and there's one massive plateau instead of two smaller ones.

I agree, Chicago is more aesthetically pleasing. However, Midtown will be more massive than Downtown Chicago as it is experiencing an enormous boom.

I think Manhattan's density and massiveness is one of a kind but at the same time its biggest 'flaw'. Many (beautiful) skyscrapers get lost in the sheer mass, no matter the vantage point.

1. New York
2. Chicago
3. Toronto
4. Houston
5. Seattle
6. Vancouver
7. Philadelphia
8. Panama City (for height only)

The rest are somewhat uninspiring and nothing to brag about

A lot of people feel this way about the Chicago skyline versus New York. I'm one of them.

I agree! However, I think midtown Manhattan is already more massive then downtown Chicago. You just don't notice as much because of the very reason you stated.
