1. Chicago: Aestetically, I find the Chicago skyline to be the most appealing. It is extremely symmetrical, with the peaks of Sears/Aon/Hancock, along with valleys of highrises. Chicago has three 1000+ footers, plus three more that straddle the magical 1000' mark: AT%T (1007 ft with spires) 311 S. Wacker (360 ft) and 2 Prudential Plaza (995 feet with spire). This is certainly impressive. It will only get better in the comming years. I feel that there is a very strong possibility that Fordham Spire will be built (2000 ft), Trump Tower is under construction (1361 feet) and Waterview Tower is underway (1045 ft). Add that to a slew of 600+ footers and you have the ingrediants to an impressive skyline.

New York: In terms of sheer density, it is difficult to beat New York City. In my opinion, NYC's skyline takes second because no one building really stands out. Even the Empire State Building, Chrysler and Citicorp get lost in the depths of Manhattan. IF WTC1 and WTC 2 were still standing, Chicago v. NYC would be a draw for me...especially with One Byrant Park/NYT Tower etc etc.

3. Tornoto: Great density. Enough said.

4. Philly

5. San Francisco/Seattle (tied)

San Francisco itself is not large but it's a beta world city and a major centre of finance, culture, arts and tourism in the West Coast.

Actually the San Francisco Bay Area is the 2nd largest metro area in California. Besides, it doesn't matter if the city is large or not, we talking about skylines and SF's is very impressive.

If SF isn't impressive, why would Maxis put San Francisco in every Simcity game?

EA, the maker of the Sim-series of games, is based in Redwood City, which is very close to San Francisco.

The area around San Francisco is home to many high-tech companies.

Very true. But I also think that San Francisco has a nice location and setting, combined with an attractive skyline is perfect for Simcity

Anyway, just wanna make a point that SF deserves to be among the best in North America.

Though New York is no.1. I also like skylines of mid size cities like Houston, Dallas, Atlanta or Seattle.

nyc and chi-town are definately 1 and 2 .but even more obvious is that #3 toronto is better than the rest. the top 3 is going to remain for a long time.

I don't think number three is obvious. I go back and forth on it myself. Sometimes I think its LA, sometimes San Fran, sometimes T-Dot, sometimes Seattle etc. If you put high priority on the high rises (not tall scrapers) outside of the CBD in Toronto then it most likely is Toronto.
It really depends on the views and photos you see for all those number there canidates though.

Almost no matter what the shot of New York or Chicago though it is pretty clear that they are number one or two. You can't say that about any shot from those other cities.

New York, in my opinion, is in a league of its own. Chicago is clearly number 2, but by a very long distance because it has only a small number of old skyscrapers in comparison with NY.

40 Wall Street

The Municipal Building

The old city hall which dates from 1802 sits across the street from it

The San Remo

20 Exchange Place

Federal Courthouse

While not skyscrapers, the Surrogates Court and the Tweed Courthouse across the street are awesome

120 Broadway

Bankers Trust

Bankers Trust at ground level (on right hand side)

Sherry Netherland and the Pierre

Woolworth

The Beresford

Metlife

New York Life

The Flatiron

The El Dorado (which looks a lot like the San Remo (also on CPW))

American Radiator

General Electric

Standard Oil

The Trinity Building (named after Trinity Church next door)

Trinity Church with the Trinity Building in the background

No introduction needed

The Crown Building

55 Liberty St.

The Helmsley

The Waldorf

The Carlyle

The Ansonia reminds me of those buildings in Madrid or Buenos Aires
