It's crazy how many good skylines the US has for just one country.

We need more big ones though rather than just New York and Chicago. Miami is working on making it three big ones.

It's what one would expect for a developed nation of 315 million people. Canada (35 million) has less people than California (38 million). Australia (23 million) has less people than Texas (26 million).

Lets not forget San Francisco. I has the density of midrises that mainly makes up the bulk of Chicago and New York. Add a few skyscrapers/supertalls and this is the skyline to look out for. I think there is one supertall under construction already.

I think North America has a lot of great skylines, big and small. I personally like these skylines in this order:
1. NYC
2. Chicago
3. Toronto
4. Seattle
5. San Francisco
6. Vancouver
7. Calgary
8. Atlanta
9. Philadelphia
10. Miami

I think one of the perceived faults that works against San Francisco is that its tallest, while AWESOME, is also very underwhelming. It sits at the bottom of a hill and tapers so much that in the pictures above, the top of it looks like a spire for another building! Also, the second tallest has always struck me as ugly, until I saw it up close in person... great materials and pretty neat, but still looks ugly when you back away from it!

The city has a pretty great skyline but lacks that dominating presence to take it to the next level. This should be corrected with the construction of Transbay (or whatever it's called now). Still, a very underrated skyline IMO.

I'm really not a fan of Miami's skyline either, despite (or maybe the opinion is stronger because of) all of its rabid vocal proponents on here. I'd easily put San Francisco and Seattle ahead of it, total building height is not particularly useful when it comes to aesthetic judgments. I also think that if LA's skyline was on the water it would look drastically more impressive, as opposed to in the middle of a flat plain.

Actually, there aren't a lot of rabid vocal proponents of the Miami skyline. From my experience, most seem to have the same opinion that you do, but it is statistically the 3rd largest skyline in the country when you take into account the number of tall buildings it has over all. It is still growing too, and hopefully, we'll get some more interesting designs from farther down the pike. Plus, I was referring to overall size, not aesthetics as Dakaro was, when I said it could be one of the big three in the U.S.

Yes, but Seattle is not closer when it comes to overall size, which is what I was talking about. The Miami skyline is going to be huge by the end of this decade whether you like it or not. Outside of New York and Chicago, it will be difficult for any other American city to catch it.
