I wonder how the statistics of just downtown Miami & the Brickell area would compare to other U.S. downtowns.
This link is the only source I know of that counts the beaches as well.

Most other sources just count Brickell, the CBD, and Edgewater. This is what the Miami skyline really looks like. It is a bit long. That's South Beach in the foreground with the Miami skyline beyond. There is a ton of stuff under construction that hasn't gone vertical yet.

That is just so mindblowingly AWESOME that it needs to be reposted. Not only is NYC my favourite North American skyline, it is my world favourite as well!

LA might have the more iconic supertall, but the fact that Houston has two puts it over LA in my opinion. (JPMC Tower is quite possibly the world's blandest supertall) Uptown Houston is also closer to downtown than Century City or West LA is to LA's main CBD.

I basically hate these "my city is better than your city" threads (which is why I don't post more about San Francisco even though I do think it has an excellent skyline) but I love this shot of my city--it shows only part of the skyline, the South of Market neighborhood--and it captures what is happening in the current boom, allowing comparisons with some of the photos of other cities posted above.

Because only a few cities in NA can you get a skyline with snow mountains

Because only a few cities in America can you get a beach-style skyline. Yes, Long Beach is in LA County. It's as relevant to LA as Beverly Hills.
(Taken by me)

Because only a few cities have such a beautiful coastline. And did I mention Santa Monica is one of the busiest downtown in California? And it's home to the coolest pier in America.

Because only a few cities in NA can you easily portray a city in one shot.

Because only a few cities in NA can you get two tall clusters in one shot. Wait, isn't there a bunch of towers planned in the foreground!?!? That means in a couple years, you won't even be able to see Downtown LA in the background!

Because only a few cities in NA are very dense.

Because only a few cities in NA can you get a landmark and skyline in one shot. What about the similar shot with Getty Center? Stahl House? Dodger Stadium? Too much to list.

Los Angeles, CA by Kelifornia, on Flickr

Because only a few cities in NA can you get a bridge and a skyline in one shot. Oh did I include the Vincent Thomas Bridge!?!? But aren't they building another huge, iconic bridge there called the Gerald Desmond bridge? Oh crap, how could I forget about the 6th Street Viaduct replacement project!!! And a bunch of other mini modern bridges over the LA River?? Wow you're going to see so many photos of DTLA and modern bridges in the future.

And that, my friends, is why Los Angeles has such a great skyline. Let's not talk about how many new towers LA is getting. Did someone say Hollywood's skyline is growing just as fast as Downtown?

It only turns into one of those threads when the "my city is better than your city" people show up. This thread does pretty well avoiding that for the most part.
