It's impossible to compete with the big boys here

However, for a city of 603,502 people, Vancouver is not that bad.

Boston just assimilated another 500'+/150m+ building (17th and 19th respectively) and it has yet to make a dent in the skyline from pretty much anywhere. It will, but in the meantime Boston is part of a relatively short list of North American cities that can boast something like that.

It has a very impressive skyline, especially when seen at night from up on Grouse Mountain! Vancouver is bigger than you think; the city with its suburbs is almost 2.5 million. The 603,502 figure is just the old City of Vancouver limits.

2.5 million is within the metro proper, there are people live as far as in Horseshoe Bay and area, Mission, Abbotsford, Chilliwack and the surrounding areas and that would pushing the number to close to 3 million mark in the Lower Mainland.

While Vancouver lacks the height and density of New York, it wins with its spectacular natural setting!

true and Vancouver skyline would greatly improve if some 200m - 250m towers added in the downtown core.

Burnaby is a suburb of Vancouver. It's located to the east of Vancouver.
Population (2012): 223,218

for the people who are not familiar with metro Vancouver, the above photo shows Metrotown, one of the 4 major clusters in the city of Burnaby, the other three are Brentwood, Lougheed and Edmond. For now the Metrotown is the biggest but soon it will be taken over by Brentwood where the tallest towers outside of downtown Vancouver will be built. Btw, the latest figure on the pop of Burnaby in 2014 is 237,594 people.

I wish America would follow Canada's example, and stop being so scared of building high rises...it would add extra amounts of much-needed housing and help slow, stabilize or maybe even reverse the increasing cost of housing many cities are seeing. But most US cities have trouble building them outside of the CBD due to NIMBYs, and many have trouble even in the CBD. I'm sure Canadian cities have plenty of NIMBYs too, but overall they seem less successful at blocking development, just judging by how many towers are going up in metro Vancouver, Toronto, etc.

The joke was good.
After China builds no country so many high-rise buildings like the United States.
