The first picture is quite possibly the best skyline picture I have seen of Mexico City

Same here. The angle tricks one into thinking it's almost a big contiguous skyline but it wasn't even possible to get an angle like that a few years ago. Mexico City's skyline is starting to come together.

Things have a habit of morphing over time. Streets are re-imagined, buildings re-worked at street level, infill occurs, the public realm upgraded, usage changes, etc. I don't view a centre median as a necessary characteristic of a grand boulevard nor is the removal of lanes. The Champs Elysees has many more lanes than this. It doesn't have a centre median either.

True, but it would take a tremendous amount of morphing to turn it into anything dramatic or grand. It is basically just a busy street right now.

A true boulevard must be lined by trees; either down the median or on both sides.... and a grand boulevard must have rather dramatic tree growth. Both types of boulevards are common; Champs Elysée is just one
of the two types. I'm always a bit surprised that there never was a magnificent boulevard designed in Montreal. In my opinion University Avenue is the closest we have to one in Canada.

Never under-estimate the creativity and smarts of our city planners, architects, and designers. They've proven time and again what they're capable of. I bet if you transported a Torontonian from 1980 to 2030, they'd be gobsmacked at the difference on Yonge Street, the Mink Mile, the waterfront, etc.

Boulevard Rene-Levesque would need a lot of work but it has the 'bones' to be every bit as impressive as University Avenue in Toronto. It will never be quite as wide but it will always be many times longer. Give it 15-20 years and I bet that strip in Montreal will become a source of huge civic pride for Montrealers. It has the potential to be a very impressive street.

I have to say the new white-ish residential tower to the left brings the skyline down a notch from this vantage point.

Of course, mexico city's skyline continues to grow up and have began to fill the spaces. Certainly in a few years will be better.

I leave another pic of mexico city's skyline.
