DETROIT | Hudsons Tower | ~244m | ~801ft | Demo

Dan Gilbert proposes a 734 ft skyscraper for the old Hudson's site.

http://www.freep.com/story/money/bus...ment/98244596/

Quote:
Gilbert's team said the proposed building would include 225,000 square feet of commercial, retail and community gathering space as well as 250 apartments, of which 50 units would be set aside as "affordable." Construction could start in April 2017 and finish by spring 2020.

Wow !
This project is incredible for Detroit.
I will be happy if Detroit could have something pretty and modern.

Very modern and cool. With Dan Gilbert behind it, I would say it's likely to be built. Can't tell if the building intentionally has a slight twist. Great stuff Detroit

Woah, I think this is gonna change Detroit's skyline, and also, I believe this could be good for Detroit and I think this building could help the city's economy.

Congratulations to Detroit for this!

Well, as per the FAQ, on the site some key legislation they are relying on passed in the senate yesterday - now on to the House. Sounds like a sort of State-wide tax abatement program.

So, it definitely seems like they're committed, pending everything goes as planned.

Quote:

What happens if the Michigan Thrive Initiative is not passed? Will you still build?

Without the Michigan Thrive Initiative, this transformational plan for the Hudson’s site will not be possible. The project will have to be dramatically reduced in scale and impact. It will not have the same potential to be a catalyst for Downtown Detroit and Michigan’s economy, nor will it have the same catalytic economic output that this proposed plan will deliver.

Looks amazing! Really hope that legislation is passed. Interior looks sweet

Those renders look a bit comical with the amount of street life though

This will be great for Detroit. The Hudson's hole is right in the middle of downtown Detroit, and is probably the most prominent scar in the Detroit urban fabric. This has the potential to not just equal the prominence and importance of Hudson's, but if Gilbert does this project right then this could even surpass it.

Okay, my admiration for this project and Gilbert is much lessened by the "need" for a tax abatement to make it happen. If Gilbert had a real altruistic streak in him, he'd be willing to contribute to the city's development and its fiscal situation by paying the taxes anyone with a lesser development proposal and less-prominent public image would have to.

Looks like they are connecting the top of the tower with the base of building, from a design/cladding standpoint. Pretty cool stuff.

Trump will make it happen; he's got a lot at stake in Michigan.

Great redevelopment proposal for the Hudson's site, though I'm not so won over by the slightly torqued tower element. Nonetheless this project represents a great statement about reviving the city core and comes on top of the new tram link from the midtown area. This may generate a lot more investment into the existing downtown real estate.
