Leehamnews mentioned this in an article about AAs plans for their A350 order in relation to the replacement of their 767s.

https://leehamnews.com/2017/09/28/am...in-six-months/

"Boeing is pitching a re-order of the 787-8 and the New Midrange Aircraft (NMA), which Kerr says that as presented is of great interest. The NMA is a 220-270 passenger, twin-aisle aircraft with a range of 4,500-5,000nm in the most recent concept Boeing has been showing the industry."

We can add Qantas to the list of interested airlines.

Qantas eyes Boeing 737 MAX, Boeing 797 for domestic fleet

But they will not be one of the 1st airlines to place an airline when it's launched.

As much as everyone seems to want this jet to be a new tech 757, what Boeing is looking at very much seems to be a new tech 767. Maybe this is what the airlines really want? Boeing wouldn't be going this direction unless the airlines were pushing them that way.

Boeing's '797' takes a big step toward becoming reality
Quote:
Boeing's new '797' has taken a big leap toward becoming a reality.

The aerospace giant has named one of its top engineers to a leadership team responsible for the formation of what is likely to become its first all-new airliner since the 787 Dreamliner.

Boeing has moved company veteran and 777X chief project engineer Terry Beezhold to the new '797' team, the company confirmed. Boeing has not yet assigned roles for members of the team.

So, let's say the 797 becomes reality. Then after some decades Boeing decides it needs another new model. Do they call this next one the 807 or the 808?
