DUBAI: The Arab world's first environment- friendly electric car is expected to roll out soon on the streets of Oman.

The car, which is likely to cost between USD 70,124.41 and USD 90,902, will run 3,600km non-stop on a single complete charge, Sultan bin Hamad Al Amri, CEO of Noor Majan which is manufacturing the vehicle, was quoted as saying by the local media.

The vehicle is expected to run without any maintenance for 21 years, he said.

According to him, the air conditioner in the car is solar energy-based and can run 24 hours a day.

The proposed plant in Oman is expected to come out with about 120 cars each year.

In the car, the doors open to the top and the vehicle will be fitted with massage chairs, Al Amri said.

The parts of the car, including the 800-horsepower engine, are manufactured in Japan, America, Germany and Hong Kong.

I'm here new, was trying to find some info about Oman, especially I heard that in Musandam area in Khor Ash Sham is new hotel under construction, probably some luxurious hotel with access only from the sea withouth land access.

Is here anybody who knows more about that hotel?

Al Madina progress report on ‘Tilal Complex’ announced



Al Madina Real Estate, a leading Omani based company backed by investors from across the region, announced the latest progress on the development of the Tilal Complex, the company’s flagship mixed use development located in Al Khuwair — that will include Muscat Grand Mall, Tilal Offices, Tilal Residences, 4-star hotel apartments, the largest health club in Oman and a 5-star hotel — at a recent press briefing held at the InterContinental Hotel Muscat.

The Tilal Complex, which is set to become one of the country’s largest mixed use developments, is the latest real estate project in Oman to be developed by Al Madina, who already have a number of residential and commercial projects as part of the their portfolio in Al Mawaleh and Al Hail.

Rihab Al Mawaleh is a residential community comprising 46 villas, a health club and beautiful landscaping including play areas for children and families to enjoy during their leisure time. In Al Hail, Al Madina is also responsible for Shaden Al Hail, a residential and commercial development facing the sea and covering 20,000 square metres including residential and commercial space, serviced apartments and a health club.

Addressing members of the press, Abdul Rahman Barham, CEO Al Madina Real Estate, said; “Al Madina Real Estate brings together a wealth of experience from a number of investors from across the region allowing us to play a leading role in developing innovative and market leading real estate solutions to the people of Oman as well as boosting tourism locally and internationally.”

“We have already successfully developed real estate projects such as Rihab Al Mawaleh and Shaden Al Hail and the ongoing Tilal Complex will be our flagship project here in Oman. This will be the largest mixed use development in Oman combining everything you could possibly need, including a central place to live or stay during your visit, a fantastic shopping mall offering a host of regional and international brands some of them currently not available in Oman, dynamic and professional office space with the latest facilities, anchored by Nawras, a health club, hotel apartments and underground parking — all spanning 250,000 square metres.”

The Tilal Complex will be delivered in three main phases. The first phase will include the opening of Muscat Grand Mall, Tilal residences and Tilal offices, serviced apartments and the health club, all of which will be complete before the end of this year. Phase two will include the opening of the 5-star hotel and phase three will include the Muscat Grand Mall expansion and residential apartments. Development of phase one alone is at a cost of some $200 million.”

Abdul Rahman added, “We anticipate that our first Tilal office residents will move in soon after Ramadhan and we look forward to welcoming them all to an outstanding environment.

The office space will provide a number of professional services to help residents thrive in an environment that provides state-of-the-art equipment and well-equipped office solutions to leading businesses in Oman also.”

750 km Saudi-Oman road construction gathers pace

JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia has stepped up efforts to open its first land border point with Oman in 2012 by constructing 592 km of road through the Empty Quarter, one of the largest deserts in the world. “We have completed 89 percent of the road project,” said Transport Minister Jabara Al-Seraisry.

The road project, linking the two GCC neighbors, began in 2007 to construct 750 km of road. Diverted from the Khorais-Bathaa Road, the new road passes through Shayba and Umm Zamoul.

The new border point will boost tourism and economic ties.

Oman is strategically located on the Straits of Hormuz and oversees the maritime traffic through the straits. About 20-30 oil tankers traverse per day through the straits, one of the world's major waterways and the busiest in maritime activities.

At present Oman has only one border point with the United Arab Emirates. Those who want to go to Oman from Saudi Arabia have to pass by the UAE. The roadway to Oman is constructed through the Empty Quarter, one of the largest sand deserts in the world, encompassing most of the southern third of the Arabian Peninsula. The desert covers some 650,000 square kilometers (250,000 square miles).

Saudi Arabia and Oman agreed to establish the border point in 2006 to strengthen bilateral relations.

According to an official statement issued after talks between Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Prince Naif and his Omani counterpart Saud Al-Bousaeedi on Dec. 3, 2006, the border point was to be operational by 2008. But the construction of the road project delayed the opening.

The border point will be called the Rub Al-Khali (Empty Quarter) Entry Point on the Saudi side and Ramlat Khaliya entry point on the Omani side. "All measures have been taken by relevant agencies in both countries to establish the border point facilities, pave the roads and build other installations," the statement said.

Saudi Arabia occupies 80 percent of the Arabian Peninsula and Oman occupies the southeastern corner of the peninsula. Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE border Oman on the west.

Saudi Arabia and Oman are major players in the Gulf Cooperation Council. Apart from strong family and religious bonds, the two countries maintain strong political, economic, cultural and trade relations.
