The town of
PLAV-GUSINJE

Located in northern Montenegro, Plav-Gusinje is one of main settlements of the Sandzak.

The term Sandzak is today used mainly describe regions of Serbia and Montenegro where Slav Muslims live. These Slav Muslims generally consider themselves to be Bosniaks, although their culture (especially traditional food, clothing, and so on) is more closely linked to Albania than Bosnia-Herzegovina.

In recent decades they have adopted more practices from Bosnia-Herzegovina, including an ethnic flag based on the old King Tvrtko one.

I found it to be a very welcoming community. My husband said there was nothing really special about the community except that it was sssooo Bosnian, but located in Montenegro.

An interesting little sample of this region's diversity and the crazy places Bosniaks, Serbs, and Croats turn up.

I know! I swear to God the city is...cute...when you're there. It's nothing spectacular. You just don't notice it as being beautiful or ugly. But in these photos, yes, it's not so nice.

The scenery is gorgeous there! The mountains seem even higher in real life.

Anyway, the spirit of the people is there... it seems like they are enjoying life!

Serbia's taxpayers pay their health care, their education. We employ them, we give them scholarships and this "modern muslim" says they are not citizens of Serbia-Montengro but some Islamic entity that they want to create out of Christian former Yugoslavia.
