This is surprising. Original plans for Konya Metro date back to the 1980s and have been scrapped in favour of tram. Obviously it´s a city with more than one million inhabitants, so a metro should make sense.

Konya has 1.2 million on 38.873 km². So it is hard to believe that its city exceeds 1 million on a reasonable area of 200 or 400 km².
