✈ | CARGO | Cargo-only carrier news & discussion

As there wasn't a thread yet for cargo-only carriers, I've started this new one.

It's easier to list what should not be posted here:

* News and discussion from cargo carriers related to/subsidiaries of flag airlines. So news from Emirates Skycargo, Singapore Airlines Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo, Air China Cargo etc should go in the general thread from that airline (group)

* News and discussion from the big 3 parcel carriers: DHL, UPS and FedEx. They warrant their own threads.

So what is allowed here ?

News and discussion from cargo-only carriers:
* ABX Air
* Air Bridge Cargo
* Cargolux
* Kalitta Air
* Atlas Air/Polar Air Cargo/Amazon Prime
* TNT Airways/ASL Airlines

This list is not exhaustive, but should provide a good starting point.

So, let's kick this thread off!

I already hinted in the Aviation Lounge to discuss Amazon Prime Air. I have a difficult time understanding why they are picking up 20+ years old 767 ?

If they were smart enough, they could have gotten spanking-new ones if they had partnered with FedEx, picking a number of their 763F order slots instead.
Another possibility would have been P2F conversions from the Emirates A332 which are now stored. Most have only 12 to 15 years of age, which is still 5 years less than the youngest 767 they now have.

Yes, I know many airlines/armed forces over the world fly machines way older than this (B-52 are 50+ years). But when airlines are replacing their 767 fleet with either A330(-300) or A350/Dreamliners, I think it's quite clear which are the most economical to operate.

Maybe Amazon thinks to score economies of scale by using a huge single-type fleet without incurring lease costs, but this may only last as long as fuel prices stay low like now.
If any geopolitical conflicts (Iran/Saudi Arabia) ignite again, fuel prices will rise and their gas guzzling oldtimers are doomed, together with the whole Amazon Prime project as well..

But because their planes are really old, they can just be easily scrapped in the event that fuel prices rise. I'm sure they've done their math and found this to be the best option.

Now, where does Amazon fly to/from? They're probably going to fly domestic for the biggest part..

If it concerns current news or events, or when a news article includes a picture, then yes.

Otherwise, if you just want to show pictures/videos not related to news or discussion, please post in this photo thread dedicated to freighter aircraft:
