Medical Architecture

As a physician i'm used to work in all-white and cold enviroments, and as an architecture enthusiast it bothers me a lot. Fortunately not all hospitals are boring (internet told me). In my country, Brazil, public health is synonym of precariousness and lack of infrastructure, so still we have a lot to do before thinking in aesthetics.

I'll start with a good example from an archteture office based in my city for an UBS (primary care):

I hope you guys around the world can contribute with the topic!

In the Northeastern US, I would say Buffalo is actually at the forefront of medical architecture, although we can't compete with the above hospitals in the architecture and furnishings department (yet). That's NY-level stuff there, but theee are more buildings in the pipeline, and you may be surprised in the coming years. Many of the architects for these projects are from out of town, cities like Boston and NYC. There is more crane/construction activity here than in our downtown or suburban areas.

Here's Oishei Children's Hospital, under construction:

Here's Conventus, completed about 2 years ago:

Here is the Gates Vascular Institute (CannonDesign), one of my favorites which was completed almost a decade ago:

Some of the windows on that Royal Children's Hospial coincidentally look like those on the Buffalo one. I'd have to imagine the architects looked at CH's around the world for inspiration.

Sant Joan de Déu Children's Hospital, Barcelona. The old buildings are gradually getting refurbished to get up to the new standards for the young patients.
