Probably high time I posted something here. So, for my centuplicate posting:
Hi folks, in Cape Town currently, lived in Bloemfontein and Mossel Bay beforehand, working in I.T. but history in financial management. Studied Economics and currently advancing studies in Software Development. I don't post often, but avidly follow the fascinating feedback and footnotes on the forum (couldn't resist the alliteration). Cheers

Hi everyone. I'm based in Cape Town (northern suburbs), early thirties, working as a lawyer, also part time economics student.
I've been following developments in Cape Town, especially transport-wise, on SSC since about the World Cup. The opening of the Myciti bus service (at long last) has inspired me to become a bit more active. |

16!?! Well, welcome! Here to make the youngsters feel old? It's interesting that you think the quality of life in SA would be better. It is, but it would be interesting to know why you think it is

Anyway the country I had in mind was Swaziland to move to Adam. The reason for me believing the quality of life was better then what I could get in the UK were things like tax. If I pick up a job that brings in the same revenue that my dad get's when I have kids (Around middle class), I will end up paying 40% on tax, pretty much no state benefits (including for child), work all hours for little return, crappy pensions even if I were to go to the public sector and a few other monetary things. In Swaziland tax is far lower, no benefits but there are reforms coming in (I suspect that they are on hold untill the financial crisis wears off). In terms of the countrys natural features, I like the UK's weather. Nice beutiful hot days and I love the rain. The snow is a lovely treat (no work) and Britain has some of the most beautiful scenery. I don't know whether you have ever heard of the national trust in the UK? It preserves huge swathes of forest and historical buildings and addmission is pretty cheap. But after a while you get used to it and you have to be fairly well-off to benefit from these features. In Swaziland, the most beutiful sunsets combined with lovely open stretches of road for a good ride with the motor-bike (can't get away with that on British speed camera ridden motorways). It's a mountanious region which adds to it's exceptional beauty. In the UK we have the downs to compare in my region. I also like how it's a small country.Security wise it falls down for example crime and rape (at one point having the highest rate of murders in the world). Robbery is still pretty big and the police don't believe in competance. Soldiers are widely used in enforcing certain policys like border patrol and nature reserve protection. They have been known to be a little trigger-happy. Hospitals are not of S.African standards and it's mostly made up of clinics. But there's no NHS so I don't have to pay as much tax. Also securities in the UK have taken away a lot of quality. The UK has tight laws which are there to protect me but it's very restrictive, try being a teacher for example... Things like jobs are pretty scarce in the Kingdom but I hope to come with the right education, attitude and expieriance to the country so that I have jobs lined up for me. In terms of the on-going HIV epidemic (Highest rate in the world leading to lowest life-expectancy) then yeah that's a worry, I'll just have to remember to put something on the end of it and not go around after every hook-benzer. The community seems great. Obviously it's hard to tell from the other side of the world so I won't really comment on that. However I hear they are big into football, that's my country. I am fed up of watching England anyway ![]() I might be able to think of some other things but for the time being that's just off the top of my head. I see my dad coming home every night exhausted and then doing everything he can to help us in his "free time". That's something I admire and fear. I know lifes not easy and work needs to be done but I want to do whatever I can to avoid that life. So I want to at least go out and explore the world. This plan might seem crazy but just to sway you guys, my parents will be on the other side of the world

I don't think thats crazy at all, the hard part as you said is finding a job which is probably easiest to find in the health sector.
I know a few things about Swaziland (that you probably know too). Swaziland has two small cities, Mbabane and Manzini. Mbabane is perched on a mountain and the climate is more temperate. Its also the main capital of Swaziland and it is a peaceful and easy going city. Swaziland's largest city is Manzini which is situated lower in elevation and is more tropical. Theres more things to do in Manzini as opposed to Mbabane but the crime rate is much higher. Where do you think you might end up living? |

Thankyou.Didn't know that thanks. I was hopeing to get in the Mbabane area. Pick up a full time job in somewhere like the stock market or some other financial area. Then take some jobs on the side if that doesn't take up enough work hours or pay. I might live in some place like Matsapha in-between the two cities. The benefits of living in a country the size of Wales. If things didn't work out I would find whatever work there is like transport and if that wasn't enough then I would bank my luck on S.Africa which would no doubt have far more financial jobs open to me and try and live my dreams there. Where are hopeing to set off to music? Your in the US right now? EDIT: thanksfor the tip on heath but I haven't signed up for anything to do with health for my A-Lvls |
