[BS] The Bahamas | Road infrastructure

The Bahamas is known more for sailing/boating and flying than driving, but there are roads on the islands. Roads and highways in the Bahamas can be discussed here.

Nassau has traffic lights, but at the intersection of Bay & East Streets, a police officer mans the traffic.

Bay Street through Downtown Nassau is one way, heading east.

I didn't know either, but it isn't surprising considered that they were part of the UK until 1973.

They also drove on the right side of the road until 2001 or so.

The Bahamas is interesting in that they have a mix of American and British driving laws/habits. They drive on the left, but use miles instead of kilometers. They have a mix of American-style and European-style road signs, as indicated by my pictures. Cars are also a mix of left-side driver's seats and right-side drivers' seats: cars sold in the Bahamas have drivers on the right side, but cars bought in the Bahamas are so expensive because of the VAT that it is cheaper to buy a car in the US and import it home.

Traffic circles/roundabouts are common in Nassau/New Providence on major roads, in lieu of standard 4-way traffic light intersections.
