Dear Sujith,
Yes, we need to improve the infrastructure of Self sustainable 'Coimbatore'. But there are only a handful of us able to get our hands on this forum. We need to take it to the mass....Hope you understand. When you publish a report on rediff or sify several hundreds get to read it. Now I hope you get the point. Yes! We need our own website or atleast some space in a familiar website family. What do you think about it? I am not pointing you Sujith, alone! I am asking all our friends! |

That was a eye opener from Sujith. Why should we depend on Govt to promote Coimbatore? Why can't we do it? We must make our own people understand that WE CAN DO IT.....then the rest will accept it.
Better Roads - We need to force NH department to take up the work. Airport - We need to force Dr. APJ. A. Kalam and Dr. Man Mohan Singh to take notice. Railway - We need to force Mr. Lalu to do something (I really doubt!!! but we have to) Cleaner and greener city - Corporation! It may look so ambitious......but very much possible. Can anyone decline my view??? Guys! Come on! Pour your postings! Make people know about the potential that Coimbatore possess! All the best! |

Hopefully the new Govt takes some interest in Coimbatore.
It can easily replicate whatever BLore did in IT.

For more projects(like residential, commercial, industrial) to be taken up in and around CBE a seperate body i.e., a Development Authority has to be created..
A new international airport project to be taken up....since many international carriers have shown keen intrest on CBE..... Due to an increase in no: of IT firms, Health Care(Medical Tourists), Textile Industry, Automobile Industry.....there will be a big demand for a New International Airport. City should have Better Roads....2 lane to be upgraded to 4 lane and 4 lane to 6 lane.. Shopping Malls and Multiplexes has to come up in a big way... More rail connectivity... |

I am extremely happy to see more and more response from people! Like innova, vasu, cbe boy..I think NOW we will be definitely able to do something for our city! Infact it should be something like a eye opener for other cities! There is a saying- if we need to change this world! Change yourself, then change things around you, Then comes, things what you see, then your home, your street, city, state, country, universe!!! So lets work together! May be we can even meet up somewhere, put in our thoughts and ideas! and I think it will be BIG!! When ideas match! As Mr.Inova mentioned , roads are major problems! And as we know Avinashi road strech can very well become a world class IT Urban highway! ONLY IF THE GOVT TAKES SOME SERIOUS STEPS! THERE IS A MAJOR CONCERN! WE SHOULD NOT GIVE PERMISSION FOR SMALL BUILDING TO COME UP AT AVINASHI ROAD! EVEN TILL 50 METER DISTANCE INSIDE THE ROAD. BECAUSE WHEN SMALL BUILDING COME UP. it really snatches away the potential of that land! That land could have given to a big MNC , who would have build a multi storey building with triple floor car parking! Now as you see niligiris and the jaya enclave! Vehicles are parked on the road due to lack of parking place in the building ! why the govt should know the crowd potential of a place and accordingly demand the builders to put underground parking facility! Jaya enclave has only one underground parking floor! But the building definitely says! Its going to pull more crowd to it! There are lots and lots of things which has to be discussed! Its only possible when people get together! We cant type everything here! Anyways ..lets see what happens!

Will DMK's comeback end Coimbatore's woes?
The victory for the DMK front in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections has raised the hope that the Rs 3,030-crore project to meet the basic needs of the city under the National Urban Renewal Mission will get the Centre's nod.
There are also expectations that the Railways would hasten the construction of two railway over bridges for which the Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, had laid the foundation during his previous tenure as Chief Minister, and which remain incomplete even after five years. Despite being the second most industrially developed city in Tamil Nadu and a major source of forex earning, Coimbatore has been getting a raw deal. Its strategic location as a gateway to major tourist destinations and its importance as an industrial hub draws people from across the country and abroad. In the absence of a full-fledged by-pass road linking all the major roads leaving Coimbatore to Salem, Pollachi, Kochi, Mettupalayam,Tiruchi and Mysore, vehicles are forced to come into the city leading to traffic snarl. The people's misery is compounded by the poor condition of the roads within the city. The Coimbatore Corporation's plan for the city roads includes laying new roads and improvement of existing roads at a cost of about Rs 95 crore as an immediate initiative. The plan seeks an allocation of Rs 637 crore for laying outer ring roads, construction of railway over bridges, flyovers, bus bays and sub-ways. The Corporation's mega plan envisages renovation of the existing under ground drainage facilities in the first three zones and extending the under ground drainage to the three other zones and new layouts at a total cost of about Rs 194 crore. While the share of the Corporation under the National Urban Renewal Mission project has been estimated to be Rs 1,312 crore, the value of works to be executed through the National Highways and highways departments is put at Rs 1436 crore and the value of the schemes to be implemented through the slum clearance board is estimated to be Rs 281 crore. The problems of a large number of unapproved layouts in the city remain unsolved and the efforts of the governments in the past to regularise them have not been successful mainly because of the stiff rules governing regularisation, particularly those relating to earmarking 10 per cent of the layout area for public purpose as `open space reserve' or payment of part of the cost of the land, if land is not available for open space reserve by the land owners. The IT park also remains only on paper though the State Government had allotted about 30 acres of land in the Coimbatore medical college campus. Though in two successive governments at the centre, including the present one, a Minister of State for Railways has been from the State, there has been insufficient financial allocation for doubling the railway track between Irugur and Coimbatore. But with the possibility of the governments at the Centre and the State working in harmony now, there is hope for better times. http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/...1501001700.htm |

i'm really not being pessimistic but how can a tier-II city corporation afford Rs. 1300 crores. that's a huge chunk of money and even a metro city corporation will find it difficult to get all that money.

1300 cr is not raised by the city corporation, it is the part of National Urban Renewal Mission (JNUM).

A wish list for the city, suburbs getting ready
Elections over, Coimbatore eagerly waits for the new Government to take charge and bestow attention on its infrastructure requirements. With the process of obtaining funds for some of the schemes already initiated, the city hopes these will be pursued with renewed vigour.
Almost all the requirements in the wish list are old schemes; some of them proposed even seven years ago. But, various sections, including the councillors in the Coimbatore Corporation, feel that things will have to speed up now as precious time has already been lost. more.. http://www.hindu.com/2006/05/15/stor...1519920300.htm |
