In Russia, generally, there is not that kind of open or hidden rasizm like in USA. But there is a very strong culture of negative stereotypes about Kavkazian nations, and nations from former USSR Central Azian states. In Balcanian countries, for example, there is no rasizm to Americas or Africa black skin people, but there is for Roma people. In Switzerland, this kind of stereotypes are about Yugoslavians, in Netherlands about Marocans... I don't know why in so much different cultures there are always some marked people...

But for visiting Russia, expect that very few people speak English, even on airports and train stations! My advice is, try to find using internet some english-speaking friends, and go to Russia! Expect hospitality, expect people trying best to comunicate to you, with all dificulties considered more ass fun and chalenge. Don't stay to much in Moscow, because Moscow is not Russia. Go to different cities, and use the train between them.

I wish you the best experience in your life.

I actually 'trained thru'(mostly) Yugoslavia in 1990. When it was still one country of six republics. All I remember are the LLOOONNGGG tunnels leading into the Beograd main train station.

For almost 30 years, I have been good friends with a native Bulgarian. When I first him in 1990, his spoken English was so-so and I spoke no Russian/Bulgarian. Now, he speaks better English than many native-born US speakers. When I talk to him, Ye govorio po-russki i on otzsaplas(?) po-anglieskii.

I have been studying Russian now for the past 10 let. I can actually dream in Russian[also in Frecnch, German and moi rodnoi yzik amerikanskii anglieskii] and even express opinions po-russki

I will DEFINITELY explore outside Moscow.

BTW, where did you learn your English?
